Say Goodbye to Part of Your Childhood: All Bebe Stores are Closing

The store that was literally the source of all my slightly scandalous dresses as a teenager, is now coming to a close.  Bebe stores across North America have been struggling for a while now. Earlier this month they announced they’d be shutting down 28 stores.  Now they’ve just announced that they’ll be shutting down all stores and their online website, leaving me to wonder where I’ll buy all my overly tight, ravishingly uncomfortable, slightly gaudy dresses.  Or, maybe I already have enough??

There was a time not too long ago when I considered entering the retail landscape.  Now, I couldn’t be more deterred!  All brick and mortar stores that use to be powerhouses are now rapidly shutting stores and trying to cut costs.

So who is taking the place of all our favorite brick and mortar stores? Online retailers, including the ultimate powerhouse, Amazon.

I’ll be honest and say it’s been a very long time since I’ve set foot in a physical store, but only mere hours since I’ve visited online stores.  Okay, fine let’s be honest I was searching online stores just five minutes ago and my shopping bags are already more filled than my makeup bag.

It’ll be sad to say goodbye to the store that is practically the source of almost every bodycon dress I’ve ever owned.  But before we say goodbye to Bebe, let’s shop their remaining hot finds! Here is a list of some of their sexy items still available online:

Jean Jumpsuit ($149)

White Leather Moto Jacket ($139)

Flared Floral Trench Coat ($189)

Hot Pink Barely There Slip Dress

Floral Cami ($39)

Perfect Summer Wedding Floral Dress ($129)

Little Black Bustier Dress ($149)

White Faux Leather Cap ($19)

Pink Beaded Choker ($49)

In Celebrity News Today…Jacket Falls off Shoulder

Today I wanted to write a post that would hopefully make people laugh.  I spend a lot of time looking online through all the latest news in a variety of genres, including (I’ll admit it!) celebrity news! Eek! It may not be the most substantial news I incorporate into my life but I like to think of it as a guilty pleasure.

The other day I was looking for celebrity news with Google and this popped up:

REALLY? No seriously, really? Is this what journalism has come to?  “Hailey Baldwin lets denim jacket slip off her shoulder.”  That’s the headline.  If that’s the headline, I can hardly imagine what kind of substance would be in the article.

This fell short of being click bait. After all, the headline is not exactly compelling.  It’s unfortunate that this was deemed newsworthy.  Luckily we can all at least have a nice long chuckle.  They say laughing is one of the healthiest things we can do for ourselves. So thank you.

In all seriousness though, if you’re looking for a similar jean jacket, here are a few to shop now:

Spring Cleaning Tips and Tricks to Refresh your Wardrobe

Spring cleaning is an exciting tradition that lives on for a reason: when we clean out our closets we get the chance to refresh our style!  Get rid of the old and make room for the NEW!  This post was inspired by Dia&Co to get into Spring cleaning mode!

This pink leather jacket (featured above) from Zara is one of my most versatile pieces!  I can wear it during the day with jeans or dressed up at night with a skirt or dress!  This item is definitely going in the “keeper” pile!  Hold off on throwing away any leather moto jackets because that trend is here to stay for a while!

The process of getting to that inspiring renewed state where we’re ready to update our wardrobe isn’t always the great thrill we expect it to be once we’re an hour into it and our closets look messier than when we started.  But there are ways to make the process run smoothly!

Don’t let spring cleaning be something that you dread.  Here are five tricks to improve your cleaning game:

ONE: Get yourself into the cleaning mode by starting with the easiest items to discard: the items that are destroyed or old.  Look for sweat stains, color fading, rips, and balling fabric and say goodbye to them.

TWO: Get rid of the items you haven’t worn in the past year.  I’ll admit I do keep some items around that have sentimental value, I think a lot of people do, but there are many items that sit in the closet for no other reason than to take up space.  Time to give them the boot!

THREE: While you’re making those tough decisions about what to keep and what to get rid of, make sure you’ve got your favorite music playing in the background.  After all, any chore is much more fun if you can dance while doing it!

FOUR: Open your blinds and the window, and let the sun shine in on you.  Any task is better in the sunlight, and if you’re going to stay inside and work, you might as well let in some fresh Spring air!

FIVE: Spring cleaning doesn’t have to be an isolating activity.  Invite your friends over! Who knows, they may want to adopt some of the clothes you don’t wear anymore.  I recently went to a clothing swap party filled with great friends, racks upon racks of clothing, savory bites, and wine.  By the end of it I left with a pair of shoes, a totally glamorous necklace, and a few cool shirts.  When you’ve made Spring cleaning into a party, you know you’re doing it right!

Spring cleaning gives us all the opportunity to rid our closets of items we haven’t worn in years and create space for items we’ll inevitably want to buy.

Take a look at your closet and think of the big picture.  Do you have all of your basics?  The white cotton poplin button down shirt, your comfy pairs of jeans, your casual tees and tanks, your loungewear, your show-stopping little black dress, and your versatile short jackets?

Then evaluate your statement pieces.  What could take your look to the next level?  For me it’s always something pink, something with sequins, and recently, something leather!

You don’t have to be an organization freak to love Spring cleaning.  I finally got tired of stepping over a mound of shoes and so I invested in a large shoe rack and it practically changed my world!  Seeing the floor with nothing scattered on it is truly a satisfying and cathartic experience!

This July I’m going to my brother’s engagement party and I’m going to need the perfect summer dress.  I love pastels for summer and I can never go wrong with a sweetheart neckline.  I’m putting a huge emphasis on color this season.  I’m craving anything soft pink, sky blue, or violet. My go-to silhouette is anything at the halfway point between bodycon and flare.  The best silhouettes are the ones that lay smoothly against my body without squishing it or hiding it.

The hunt is on for my favorite Spring items, and now I’ll have room in my closet for them! What are some of your favorite Spring cleaning tips?

Molly

Get Pumped for Spring

Before you go off and buy too many pairs of sandals, don’t forget that there’s nothing a high heel pump can’t solve.  I love these splatter painted pumps because they’re edgier than your typical “classy” pump.  Although I had to add those straps to keep them on my feet, I think the integrity of the shoes remained intact.

Believe it or not, pumps are one of the most versatile items you have in your closet.  They can take you from day to night with a simple outfit change.

Pair them with jeans by day and a dress by night.  Make them classy with a button down or make them edgy with a metallic bomber jacket.  The choice is yours.  Here are some of my hot Spring pump picks to shop now:

Natural Ways to Comfort a Hangover and Hide it in Style

For some of us who may have made too much liberal use of the Sunday bottomless mimosa brunch concept, Monday mornings can be an even bigger hassle than usual.

Here are a few natural ways you can comfort your suffering, hungover self:

  1. Sip on some peppermint tea

2. Add some ginger

3. Get a Vitamin C boost with Orange Juice

4. Opt for foods high in potassium like bananas, avocados, potatoes, and spinach

5. Drink tons of water

If none of that works, your next option for curing your hangover is “pretending” your hangover is cured.  How do we pretend?  We dress to impress, instead of dressing the way we feel!  Adding some color to your look will distract from the darkness you feel inside.  Big circular shades are not only super trendy, but also super convenient to hide dark circles under your eyes.

5 Ways to Make “Preppy” Style Way Cooler

It’s not lost on me that my early college years are over.  Those days I thought I was so cool and classy because I was wearing a headband and an argyle sweater with a collar, really don’t happen anymore.

Of course, “preppy” never really goes out of style, but the way in which it’s carried out, definitely does!  Here are FIVE ways to wear “preppy” style in a modern, refreshing way:

  1. Plaid skirts are one of the most stereotypical school girl items.  So how do we wear this item without fitting into this stereotype?  Try to find ones that have a grunge vibe going on as well.  A burgundy, navy, and white plaid skirt like the one above can definitely be termed “grunge” when paired with a black leather moto jacket, or be termed “classy and sophisticated” when worn with a black turtleneck.  It’s all about how you spin it!
  2. This Spring we’re going to be seeing blazers everywhere!  Blazers are no longer a preppy professional item.  Blazers can be worn with jeans for a totally chic weekend look.  While I used to be a huge fan of blazers, I’m still a bit too caught up in leather moto jackets at the moment.
  3. Be preppy in pastels.  Spring is one of my favorite times of year because it means a switch from dark, bold colors to soft, feminine pastels.  Any “preppy” look with a hint of soft shades will help bring some much needed “feminine glam” into the look!
  4. Straight hair with internal layers.  Although I generally prefer to curl my hair, I was recently reminded of how sleek and sexy straight hair can be when done right.  Old school preppy looks often featured pin straight hair of the same length.  This look got boring fast!  Modern preppy welcomes straight hair with a twist: lots of layers and long side swept bangs!
  5. Soft pink lipstick.  The “preppy” look is a lot better when it’s got an added feminine vibe. Pink lipstick, either matte or glossy, will definitely do the trick!

This Spring’s Hottest White Tops to Buy without Breaking your Budget

For strategic reasons, I don’t often buy white tops.  They stain easily, they lose their bright white color in the wash, they’re sometimes see-through, they require white bras, and they turn yellow when you sweat.  Putting those common issues aside and focusing on style, there are so many different ways to complete your look with a white top!

The guide to buying the hottest white tops starts with one of the trendiest styles this season: the off-the-shoulder top!

There are so many off-the-shoulder varieties to choose, including:

The simple classic elastic band:

Nordstrom ($35)

The half on half off:

Nordstrom ($26.98)

The subtly sexy criss cross:

Nordstrom ($49)

The more conservative long sleeve:

Forever 21 ($22.90)

Shopbop ($19.50)

And finally, when you don’t want off the shoulder, the classic white peplum top is the perfect professional and chic top for work attire.

Macy’s ($29.99)

White tops are perfect to pair with your favorite skinny or flare jeans! When you want to make them work appropriate, pair them with wide leg trousers or a pencil skirt.

Accessorize with your Favorite Spring Items

Spring is an exciting time because it means more days wine touring, more open toe sandals, more floppy hats as protection from the sun, and more summery, youthful colors.

My go-to wine touring look always includes something girly (pink floral dress/pink handbag), something elegant and classy (wide-brimmed beach hat), and something fresh for Spring (light blue open-toe sandals).

I like to believe that what we wear is a reflection of our inner beauty.  In the Spring and Summer we wear light, airy colors to reflect the joy we feel about the warm weather.  In the Winter months we wear dark, bold colors to reflect our desire to hide ourselves from the harsh weather (unless you live in California!)

Here’s a collection of some essential accessories every woman needs for Spring!  Underneath your piles of Winter clothes, hopefully you can pull out some of your favorite light accessories because sometimes a blast from the past is exactly what you need to revitalize and inspire your style in the future!

Mastering the Art of a Costume Party

I’ve never really been that into costume parties, primarily because I always chose my costumes five minutes before the party.  Recently however, I’ve discovered how much fun a costume party can be if you LOVE your costume, and put more than five minutes of thought into it.

Several years ago my dad got me a pink hard hat and that’s when construction worker became my “go-to” costume.  I finished off the look with a construction vest and a pink tool belt for my waist.

Every costume needs something special to make it stand out.  While the pink hard hat is already pretty flashy, I wore 6-inch platform heels to feminize the look a tad bit more!

The best costumes, in my opinion, are the ones that are loosely based off something, and then bedazzled with your own burst of personality.  Since my daily style is typically ultra-feminine and girly, for costume parties it’s fun to play a different role, a more masculine role…Something out of my comfort zone, but oddly satisfying and quirky.  The construction worker costume fits all my requirements.

While I didn’t fix any pot holes this weekend (Sorry San Francisco!), I did have a lot of fun pretending.

The Greatest Boots are Sky High

Sometimes all we need to update our wardrobe is a pair of boots that are thigh high without the price being sky high! Am I right?

There are very few perks in experiencing winter.  Some will say skiing is a perk; I’d argue that’s more of a chore.  Some would say snow is so pretty, I’d say palm trees are more pretty and they don’t turn us into an icicle.  Some would say winter makes us appreciate summer; I say I’d still appreciate summer if summer were all year round.

One thing we can agree on is that knee-high or thigh-high boots are a big part of making winter tolerable.

The Simple Spring Fashion Trend we all Love

This weekend we’re turning our clocks forward! Every year I look forward to this time change because it means one extra hour of sunlight each day.  As Spring approaches, I can’t help but reflect on one of my favorite Spring trends: shedding clothes.

When the weather heats up, the sweaters come off.  While my style is normally synonymous with flashy, bold, girly, and chic, the Spring and Summer months often bring out my desire for casual basics that keep life simple.

Faded jeans and a tank top, paired with flip flops is usually as basic as I’ll go.  Of course sparkly rings and a little bit of lip gloss will probably liven things up a bit, but nonetheless, the simplicity will still be there.

Happy International Women’s Day!

Get the West Coast Working Girl Look

img_0698

When I was a kid, I always dreamed of having a job where I could dress fancy, crazy, and ultra chic.  Being an East Coaster, style always meant dresses, skirts, and high heels.  Style was often synonymous with “dressing up.”

Living on the West Coast for several years now has taught me that looking ultra chic and wildly stylish can be done in a more casual way.  In fact, combining typically “dressy” items with our casual “favorites” can result in some very cool looks.

screen-shot-2016-11-07-at-10-58-08-am

Pairing fancy and fem pieces with a ripped pair of jeans can surprisingly take you from morning to night.

That 90’s grunge look that keeps popping up, like those leather moto jackets or those plaid shirts, can all be made appropriate for work when paired with the right classic and chic pieces.

When funky meets fem, you’ve got yourself some serious style!

Tuesday Shoesday

Whether you’re celebrating Tuesday Shoesday, Taco Tuesday, or Valentine’s Day…or all three, your style is a vital component.

pom-pom

Some may say the lingerie is the most important part of any Valentine’s Day look.  However, I’d of course argue it’s the shoes…primarily because half the time I’m not wearing any lingerie..

Whether you agree or not, Taco Tuesday is the perfect opportunity to wear something that makes you feel special.  Tuesday Shoesday should inspire your weirdest shoe obsessions.  I wore these shoes at the Fairmont Hotel and garnered lots of heart-warming awkward stares.

Here’s to wearing your heart on your shoes all day!

5 Wardrobe Pieces Every Millennial Needs in their Closet

As millennial’s, we’re running from work to happy hour to our dinner dates often without being able to go home in the midle.  When time is limited and our style is important, how do we satisfy both?  The key for style success as a millennial involves five key wardrobe pieces.

The Edgy Leather Jacket

screen-shot-2017-02-06-at-9-40-53-am

Leather jackets are one of the most versatile pieces you can own because they give off a different vibe depending on how you pair them.

The Strapless Bra

The strapless bra may be your most convenient piece in your wardrobe because it will work with a wide variety of outfits.  In the day of course you’re more than covered, but at night when you want to strip down to your strapless dress, you’ll be covered without those annoying bra straps showing.

Little Black Cocktail Dress

screen-shot-2017-02-06-at-10-07-57-am

This off-the-shoulder dress is the perfect example of a dress that will make you love the convenience of your strapless bras.  A sweater of jacket can make it more conservative by day.  It’s simple and elegant and can be dressed up with the perfect jewels for an evening out.

The Chunky High-Heeled Bootie

Of course we all want to impress when we say we’ve been wearing our high heels all day from the office to our walk home or to the bar, but who really wants to do it in stilettos?  A chunky high-heeled bootie with a cushy sole and a small platform is a woman’s best friend and best kept secret.

The Baseball Cap

pink-taco-la

While I’ve never been much of a hat person, I recently found a brown leather baseball cap that has proven to be invaluable to me on many different occasions.

Whether you’re going to a sports game, hiding from the sun, running errands without makeup, or just trying to add some sportiness to your look, a leather baseball cap is a more stylish alternative to the typical sports baseball cap that many guys wear.

Molly

Getting Ready in 10 Minutes or Less

Whether you’re jetting off to a protest or just running a few errands, getting ready in 10 minutes or less is always an accomplishment!  Everyone knows that on average, a guy can get ready much faster than a woman, partially because they don’t have to worry about makeup, nail polish; they have less clothing options, less shoe options, and often short easy-to-manage hair. As a woman, I refuse to accept this; if I want to be out the door in 10 minutes, I will, and I’ll look good doing it!img_6860

As a woman with long hair, a large clothing collection, and an even larger shoe collection, getting ready isn’t always quick or simple.  While I do sometimes take pleasure in curling my hair or trying on a million different shoes to pick the right one, on days when I want to accomplish tasks quickly and run a few errands, getting ready in 10 minutes or less is very helpful and all the styling can be easily fast-tracked.

img_6861

While I’m never the one to sport sweatpants in public (I keep my fashion standards a tad higher, even on my casual days), my go-to fashionable, comfy outfit is simple and effective.

Step 1: Throw on a pair of flared stretch tights/yoga pants.  I prefer flared to skinny because the flare helps them look less like workout clothes and more like comfortable “get work done” kind of clothes.

Step 2: A tank top, bra is optional.

Step 3: A t-shirt (I actually wore the t-shirt I slept in under this jacket just to cut down on my “picking out clothes” time) but do what you think is necessary.

Step 4: Neutral-colored jacket. I chose this windbreaker because it looks sporty, but not too sporty, it looks casual, but not frumpy, and it’s lightweight and comfortable!

Step 5: Now for the hair and makeup routine.  My secret?

I’m wearing no makeup.  About 30 seconds before I head out the door, I put a tiny bit of Clinique’s moisturizing color lip balm on my lips to keep them soft.

So how do I get away with going sans makeup? I sport Ray-Ban shades and a leather hat!

Step 6: I did nothing with my hair so there really is no step 6.  I let the natural waves that developed from having my hair in a bun, work their magic!

And there we go, ready in 10 minutes or less!

Molly

Will Melania Trump be our Next Fashion Icon?

After hearing about all the designers that refused to dress Melania Trump for the inauguration, most people have agreed that her outfit was stunning and very obviously reminiscent of Jackie Kennedy.  First Lady’s are known to rocket to “fashion icon” status as soon as they enter the White House, just look at Michelle Obama, or Jackie Kennedy. This time should be no different.  The classic designer, Ralph Lauren, stayed true to the brand and created a look that celebrated true iconic American style.

If you were one of the many who chose to forgo watching the inauguration, the only thing you missed were some beautiful ensembles worn by the new First Lady.

screen-shot-2017-01-22-at-5-41-59-pm

During the day Mrs. Trump wore a sky blue cashmere cropped jacket over a sky blue mock turtleneck dress with suede gloves and a suede clutch that were also in sky blue. Unlike many times when she wore her hair down, this time her hair was up in a soft updo.

While she didn’t set any new trends, she channeled one of the most memorable first ladies, Jackie Kennedy, and rocked a hue that represented class, charm, sophistication, and timelessness.

If you focused real hard, you may have even been able to time warp back to the 60’s.  One of my favorite designer collections was Gucci’s Fall 2014 runway show.  I couldn’t help but be reminded of the 60’s inspired colors and shapes from this collection.  Do you see the resemblance?gucci-fall14

gucci-fall-14

Mrs. Trumps’s evening gown was just as stunning as her day time ensemble.  The off the shoulder, cream colored gown was sophisticated, smart, and elegant.  While some of her past outfits have been held under controversy for being too sexy (which by the way, they totally were not and people really just need to stop being stupid), this gown was stunningly gorgeous.  One of Mrs. Trump’s goals as First Lady is to conquer bullying.  Let’s start by not picking a fuss over a beautiful lady looking beautiful and sexy, despite what we may or may not think about her husband’s politics.

All we should learn from the inauguration is that sky blue is the way to go, the off the shoulder trend is here to stay (at least for the time being) and a dress slit can go a long way! Sometimes the smallest details can be the foundation for the most sophisticated look.

Starting with dresses, you can’t go wrong with a plunging neckline, but you might want to invest in some good fashion tape to avoid any nip slips.

One Trend you’re Guaranteed to See at Every Award Show

If you tuned into the Golden Globes last night you probably saw three distinct things: lots of skin, lots of sparkle, and lots of bling.  Every year stylists break down the trends from the red carpet. If you missed the Golden Globe Awards last night that’s okay because there is just one trend you need to know about and two stars you need to see wearing it.  The trend is: the plunging neck-line and the stars are Mandy Moore and Emma Stone.

When you know you’re going to see the same trend each time, you wonder how people can keep it interesting, but many did just that!  Mandy Moore took the approach of a superhero with her plunging neckline cape gown.  Her chunky earrings were the only bling she needed to make her look feminine and sophisticated.

Who wore the plunging neckline the best?  That would be Emma Stone and the reason? Her dress was sparkly!

Like the stars on her dress, Emma Stone really was a star last night.  Like many others, she wore one statement piece, a chunky necklace.

Wardrobe Staples for any Ultra-Fem Fashionista

It’s no secret that the color pink makes up at least half of my wardrobe.  Between my ever-growing collection of pink handbags and my penchant for buying anything that sparkles, my closet would be the perfect playground for an all-girls elementary school.  Instead of show and tell, they could play dress up.

Every article I read about wardrobe staples, defines them as more “neutral” and “basic.”  But this commonly used definition is an overgeneralization.  A tomboy might live in raglan tees, a sports enthusiast might live in jeans and a jersey.  Different styles should have different staples.

My new favorite wardrobe staple are these light pink chunky heel booties from AMI Clubwear.  A “staple” should be anything that is comfortable enough and versatile enough to wear all the time and match with almost anything!  I wear these booties with skinny pants during the day, and dress them up at night with a little black dress.

In the winter, every wardrobe needs a jacket staple as well.  This year I’ve forgone the long trench coats and have slithered into a collection of leather moto jackets!  This light pink leather jacket from Zara can instantly turn a boring neutral outfit into a statement.

Last but not least, my ring-covered hand will be holding this hot pink leather bag from Danier leather.  After all, combining different shades of pink in one outfit is one of life’s many pleasures.

The Pursuit of Thanksgiving Happiness Broken Down into Lists

Happiness comes in many forms.  Tomorrow happiness will be shaped like a turkey for many people, or perhaps even a pumpkin pie.

img_6283

I’ve gone to two Friendsgiving dinners in the past couple of weeks and both of them had two things in common:

  1. A ton of food
  2. The most sophisticated Fall decor

Tomorrow’s thanksgiving will be slightly different though because there will be two other things on our minds besides the food we eat and the dishes we eat them on.  I’ll be giving thanks for:

  1. the Gilmore Girls four part episode series premiering at midnight
  2. Black Friday sales

img_5689

Before these events can commence, we need strategies for surviving the meal:

  1. Have a tiny bit of everything
  2. Ditch the before dinner rolls

When you’re in the middle of all the madness, take a deep breath and remember:

  1. Pace yourself, it’s not a race.
  2. Keep your wine glass full.

img_0845

Make your life easier – what not to wear on Thanksgiving:

  1. Bodycon dress.  Where will the turkey go if you don’t let your stomach breathe?
  2. High-waisted skinny jeans.  You don’t have to go so far as to wear sweatpants, but remember that a stretchy waistband is probably best!

When the meal is over, two things will help you in your overly satisfied state:

  1. Sitting by the fireplace with a green tea in hand
  2. Watching a movie: preferably a cheesy one that starts with a family crisis and ends with a happy family sitting around the table enjoying a holiday dinner.  Bring on the sappiness.

Airport Style Essentials to Keep you Comfortable

With Thanksgiving around the corner most of you will be jetting off somewhere to spend the holiday with family or friends!  While being with family and eating obscene amounts of food you’d never normally eat is the fun part, getting there via flying is the necessary hassle!

screen-shot-2016-11-23-at-12-52-33-pm

There seems to be a common misconception that when you fly, the only way to be comfortable is if you look like you just got out of bed.  I remember a person once telling me that they would laugh at any woman they saw wearing heels in the airport.  Well, I’m definitely a woman that wears heels in the airport.  Just because I’m preparing for a journey through the sky, doesn’t mean I have to throw away my usual “style staples.”

Instead, there are a few style rules I follow when traveling.

  1. Layers: The only thing worse than being too hot on a plane, is being freezing cold on a plane.  I’ve definitely experienced both.  Living in San Francisco has taught me the art of layering.  It can be applied to airport style to give you ultimate comfort every step of your trip.

2. The pants you wear should be comfortable and soft.  Most importantly, whatever you wear should be long enough to cover your entire legs from touching those scratchy plane seats.  While many people choose leggings, a pair of soft flared jeans while give you even more style without compromising your level of comfort.

3. As for shoes, you should be able to walk quickly and efficiently in them.  That being said, there are a ton of heels that can be even more comfortable than flats!

4. A headband to keep your hair tucked comfortably behind your ears is always a plus.

5. Lastly, a cross-body handbag can go a long way when you’re juggling all your luggage.  The more time you can spend with nothing in your hands besides your passport and your plane ticket, the better.  A handbag with a cross-body strap will ensure you’ve always got your important items right on your person.

The Coziest Sweater Dresses to Scoop up Now

Sweater dresses are one of those hybrid trends that provide the style you want in your daily look, with the comfort you rarely achieve outside of your bed at home. Think of sweater dresses as the closest you can get to wearing a Snuggie in public.

While some sweater dresses are bulky and give you extra space all around (so you can eat a big Thanksgiving meal!), other sweater dresses are more tailored.

In the cold Fall/Winter weather, sweater dresses look great when worn with stockings.

So when is the best occasion to wear sweater dresses?  Well, if you’re living on the East Coast, sweater dresses are probably a staple in your wardrobe.  Weather you’re heading to class, to work, or out to happy hour sweater dresses solve your problem of wanting to look dressy while staying warm!

If you’re on the West Coast where nine out of ten people live in jeans, a sweater dress is a great way for you to show off your femininity in a dress while keeping your general vibe still “casual and cool.”

You can go as crazy as you want with a sweater dress.  Sometimes a crazy pattern is the way to go because you’re certainly not gonna turn any heads with your safely tucked away cleavage!

Sweater dresses beg for our creativity.  Combine a layered look sweater dress with a pair of stockings and pumps, and you’ve got a killer look for the office.

It’s important to exercise one caution when buying sweater dresses.  It’s one thing to dress comfy, but it’s another thing to surround yourself in so much fabric that it would take an entire army to find your body.

Sweater dresses can be notoriously “boxy” and take away all the natural shape you have to offer, like that dreidel costume your parents made you wear as a kid.

Despite what people say, a sweater dress can be very sexy, especially if you wear it with a pair of thigh high boots.

Sweater dresses can even show some skin!

If you’re not convinced of the magic of a sweater dress by now, you’ve obviously never experienced snow.  Or you’re a man.

Either way, there are so many sweater dresses to shop, if you weren’t a fan before, you should be one now!

Get the “I’m Gunna Kick Some Butt” Look

The “I’m gunna kick some butt” look is one of my all time favorites.  It is manufactured by the inner need to express yourself despite the consequences.  It is an important part of that empowering feeling when you learn to embrace your fashion favorites, and ignore the rules set before you.

The “I’m gunna kick some butt” look can come in many different forms, but there are a few vital characteristics that it often possesses:

a) Stand out jewelry.  Arming yourself with glitzy rings is a great way to start.

b) Something weird.  Wearing something weird like a pair of jeans with paint splatter says something about your willingness to accept yourself for who you are.  It not only shows your quirky side, it also shows your confidence to wear what ever pleases you.

c) Leather.  A kick butt outfit isn’t complete without some article of clothing that is made from leather.  Your best option is probably a biker jacket, a leather miniskirt, or tight leather pants. Each one shows that you mean business!

d) Something metallic.  Metallic items help you stand out.  In any “kick butt” outfit it’s always good not to shy away from the spotlight!

e) High heels.  This is a no-brainer.  High heels help a woman’s posture; they distinguish us from the opposite sex; and while not yet scientifically proven, they make us more efficient and productive because it’s pretty hard to have a bad day when your favorite shoes are lifting you up…literally.

f) And of course, it must include something sparkly like a sequined handbag because after all, sparkles are the most empowering part of any adult outfit.

Outfits Too Sexy to Wear if President Trump is in your Vicinity

Ladies and Gentlemen, the people have chosen our President and now we have to endure the consequences.  I spent this morning listening to President Trump’s infamous video where he brags about being able to do anything, including sexually assaulting women, because he is a star.  And then I thought to myself, this is who the majority of America has elected, so now we must deal.

If you don’t want his lips being drawn to you like a magnet, (like he boasts in the video), here are some basic dress attributes to avoid.

  1. Say goodbye to cleavage.  Way too sexy.

2. Any leg slit in the dress is provocative as well so stay away!

Blue & Cream ($355)

3. V-necks are way too alluring.

4. Dresses with cutouts show too much skin.

Revolve ($188)

5. Anything dominatrix style is out too.  Sends the wrong message.

6. Skirt lengths above the knee are unacceptable.

7. Bodycon dresses that hug your curves are way too sexy.

8. Off-the shoulder dress, although super trendy this season, just say no.

How Vogue Just Upset Big-Breasted Women

The internet is going crazy over Vogue’s recent article about “cleavage” being out of fashion. In the fashion world, if Vogue says it, people believe it!  But can a body part really go out of fashion?  If anything, I’d say that short dresses that barely cover our butts and have to be pulled down every two seconds while walking, is the trend we should do away with before any other!

cleavage

Cleavage is a natural part of a woman’s body.  Sure we can cover it up with conservative high-neck tops, but saying cleavage is out it like saying butts are out!  I’m sorry, certain things can never really be deemed “out of fashion.”

Showing cleavage has been a time-honored tradition in fashion magazines and runways for a long time now.  With our society taking so many steps forward, the risk of a possible nip-slip in a cleavage-bearing top, isn’t even that bad anymore!  Remember the 2004 Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake superbowl debacle?  That story was talked about forever!  If that were to happen again, it wouldn’t even make it to our Facebook trending topics.  Thanks to Miley Cyrus and Donald Trump, very little shocks us anymore.

For women with small breasts, achieving cleavage in a push-up bra is deemed a proud accomplishment: a way to feel sexier!  I say “sexier” instead of “sexy” because women should feel sexy no matter how they look, whether or not they are showing cleavage!

I think the only thing we should learn from Vogue’s statement about cleavage being “out of fashion” is that no one source, despite how powerful they may be can dictate certain rules. Some things never go out of fashion!

Molly

Why Business Trips are Never Just about the Business

img_6559

Last week I took a business trip to Chicago for a trade show.  Not only was I probably the youngest one there, I was also the only one in the room wearing pink.  Most people probably think that business trips are about the work.  Let me show you how they’re not!

I may have talked to 5 or 6 people about the business, the products, or my role in the company, but I told about 20 people that I bought my shoes from Aldo.  A trade show gives you the opportunity to show off your style to a wider audience than the usual set number of coworkers in your office.  I may have shook hands with 30 new business men that I met, but the photo-op didn’t start until I met the man in a gorilla suit.

img_6556

Business trips are about the city.  Taking an all expense paid trip to Chicago, a city I’d been wanting to visit, was half the fun!  A business trip takes you away from sitting behind your computer screen all day long.  This is when life happens.  New city means new dining experiences.  In Chicago, we ate at an amazing restaurant called Joe’s.  After all, you know your restaurant is good when you look over and see A-Rod dining at the table next to you.  True story!

The best part about a quick trip is the size of your luggage!  There’s something to be said about being able to get off a plane and head straight to the exit with just your carry-on.  This trip I was lucky enough to sit beside an ex-con on my way to Chicago.

But the real party started the next day at 3:00pm when we had a late lunch with cocktails.  Before dinner the party continued with drinks at our hotel, The Hyatt (we were really slumming it).  The party kept going with bottles of wine at dinner.  The party ended just after we finished our late-night drinks. I’d say all in all it was a productive day of…work.

The next morning we ate breakfast at our hotel.  I have to admit it was a little weird drinking orange juice that didn’t have champagne in it, but at least it was fresh-squeezed.

On the way to the airport I was sad to be leaving, but happy to know I was getting out of the city before the madness of the Cubs game began!  Little did I know the adventure wasn’t over yet! Just minutes before boarding the plane to fly home, I watched another plane’s engine explode into flames and black smoke on the tarmac.  There’s nothing like watching another plane on fire minutes before stepping onto your own plane.  Luckily the gin martinis from the previous night were still keeping me mellow.

While the “business” trip went by way too quickly, it sure was great!  And now I can tell people that every time I visit Chicago, the Cubs win the World Series!

Molly

The Statement Piece Every Wardrobe Needs

screen-shot-2016-10-24-at-12-10-32-pm

We may not all want to wear bold patterned dresses all the time, but no wardrobe is ever complete without at least one wild dress you thought would be unflattering until you tried it on.  Vertically challenged individuals like myself, probably already know that patterns aren’t easy to pull off when you’re not 5 foot 9.  One key piece of fashion advice I learned from a young age, is that solid colors make you look taller, and crazy patterns can make you look shorter.

The shorter the dress, the more it will emphasize the length of your legs!  Pick a dress that has the same pattern from top to bottom.  Know which colors flatter your skin tone, and stick to them!
