Why I Can’t Do a Capsule Wardrobe

With my recent move, I kept trying to figure out how I was going to bring all my clothes, shoes, handbags, and accessories with me. When I took a moment to think about it, I realized that I have so much stuff that I don’t like, don’t wear that often, and don’t need and yet I can’t seem to get rid of them.  Although I’ve recently thought about trying to form more of a capsule wardrobe, I’ve begun to realize that it just may not be for me.

What is a capsule wardrobe?

capsule wardrobe consists of a few essential items of clothing that don’t go out of fashion. The pieces are very versatile, making them easy to mix and match with anything else in your wardrobe.

Because capsule wardrobes consist of all year round, versatile pieces, I often find that it leaves me wanting more: more trendy items, more flashy items, and more colorful items. The very idea of choosing a mere 15-20 pieces to wear consistently, bores me to tears! I love the idea that choosing an outfit becomes easier due to the sheer lack of choices, but at the same time, I HATE the lack of choices!

The Millennial Attitude Towards Fashion

When I was growing up I remember reading that many celebrities would only wear a dress once. I used to think that was crazy; what if they loved that dress, why can’t they just wear it again? But then as I grew up, I realized that I started falling out of love with some dresses after wearing them and being pictured in them.

My question is, have I just fallen prey to this millennial attitude that is geared towards always wanting more? More stuff, more experiences, and more fun? Or does this attitude just reflect my constantly morphing style preferences and my desire to keep things fresh and exciting?

Options Aren’t Necessarily a Bad Thing

I love sparkles. I love metallics.  I love pink! I love uncomfortable high heels. I love wearing sparkly jewelry. I love wearing a different pair of shoes everyday. I love scouring the internet for inspiration for a new look. I’m excited to move to a new city because I want to try out a new style. This isn’t a bad thing.

There are so many articles about how to start a capsule wardrobe. When I read them I become inspired and gleeful, and then I take a look at my closet trying to discard anything I haven’t worn in the past few years, but I find myself making excuses to keep items like a flashy leopard cardigan that I’ve never worn. I find myself saying things like, “What if leopard one day loses it’s cliche cougar reputation. What if leopard print becomes my new favorite obsession after the color pink? What if one day I wake up and decide I actually don’t hate leopard print and I don’t think it’s tacky?

Trends DO Resurface

It’s the circle of life.

I have two jean skorts (yes “skort” a skirt with shorts underneath) that I haven’t worn since high school and that would most definitely show off my lower butt cheeks, but I keep them thinking that if the “2004 style” resurfaces, I’ll be right on trend!

I’ve done preppy, I’ve done girly, I’ve done fancy, I’ve done classy, I’ve done scandalous, and I’m looking forward to trying boho.  Changing my style regularly is what keeps fashion exciting for me.  This is why I’ve come to terms with the fact that I am currently not interested in pursuing a capsule wardrobe.  That is why I ended up trying to figure out how to cram 50 pairs of shoes into four suitcases!

Everything in Moderation (Even Moderation)

Although I won’t be committing to a capsule wardrobe anytime soon, I will definitely think about the versatility of a piece before buying it. I’m slowly moving past those days of purchasing 5-inch platform heels that I used to call my “dinner shoes” because I couldn’t walk in them, so I’d simply wear them while sitting and eating dinner.  I’ve grown to think about comfort and versatility more and more as I buy new items to enhance my personal style. While I’m still a fan of anything pink and sparkly, I can also see the value in a classic little black dress or a pair of solid colored pumps.

Investing in a Few Basics

My wardrobe is actually pretty devoid of many “basic” items. I always used to avoid buying basic tees and basic cardigans because I wanted to save my money for the inevitable crazy, wild pink color-blocked, geometric, 5-inch high heels that I knew I would inevitably fall madly in love with to the point where I couldn’t get my mind off them. But now I’ve realized that my wardrobe is sorely lacking in versatile basics. I’ve accepted the fact that I should hold off on buying crazy pieces at the moment, and instead focus on buying quality, casual pieces that will support and nurture my low maintenance easy-going lifestyle.

Molly

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Must-Haves

Twice a year I look forward to the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. Although I could have linked about 50 things that I’d want to buy, I decided to keep it to a handful of my faves.  From off-the-shoulder sweaters to summer flats, little black dresses, and more, I think this selection includes a little something for every style.

With my impending move to LA, my wardrobe is in desperate need of jean shorts, basic casual tees, and a few more sandals. (Okay I don’t actually NEED more sandals, but in my world no closet can have too many shoes.)

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Wardrobe Must-Haves:

What My Wardrobe Needs:

Shorts Blank NYC from Nordstrom

I only listed one pair here because most of the shorts that I found that I loved were not on sale. But I didn’t want to be that annoying person that draws you into a sale, then points out the most expensive stuff that isn’t on sale!

I love the shorts above because they are not TOO short.  For years, I was fully immersed in the “short shorts” craze so now I’m stuck with two options: show my butt or wear pants. Since I’m moving to a place that is all year round Summer, I figure it’s a good idea to invest in some more “appropriate” (I hate that word) shorts.

What My Wardrobe Wants:

Nordstrom Alexander Wang

I’ve been obsessing over these Alexander Wang shoes for over a year now. They’re finally on sale. And if I hadn’t of just bought a new pair of Malone Souliers sandals, I might have considered these.

I’d love to hear what you bought from the Nordstrom Sale…or what you want to buy!

My Go-To Summer Wardrobe Staple

White skirt from Zara

White Skirt from Zara

I love Summer for many reasons with one of them being, white skirts!! White shorts, white jeans, white tees…all of these get way more play in my daily look when it’s hot and sunny out.

Summer Wardrobe Staple

This high-waisted white miniskirt from Zara has been one of my favorites since 2015.  Unfortunately I have a knack for dirtying white clothes every time I wear them.  When I wore this skirt for the first time a few years ago, I did silent disco in a sandy field and ended up muddying it up with yellow stains.  After months and months of bleaching it a million times, I finally got the white color back so it looks almost as good as new.

I love pairing white with a bold girly color, like with this pink crop top.  I tied the whole look together with white, pink, and grey sandals from Aldo.

white mini skirt

Miniskirts aren’t always the most convenient in the Summer, especially if you end up playing life-size Jenga at a bar, but I always do my best to keep things lady-like. Before this we had the most amazing Chinese food so I’m surprised the skirt still fit at that moment, but there’s no questioning miracles right?

I’ve embraced crop tops in the past couple Summers because I’m all for the motto, “the less clothes the better” …at least in the summer when it’s a balmy 90 degrees!

Must-Have Accessories for Every Summer Wardrobe

BeauxBlues Etsy

I’m always on the prowl for cool summer accessories that will turn a basic/casual look into something more edgy/feminine/funky…it really just depends on the day. Sometimes I take the free for all approach and just combine edgy, feminine, and funky to create one look that can’t be deduced to a single stereotype.

3 Must-Have Summer Accessories

1. Bracelets

I give all the bracelets in my jewelry box a chance to be seen in the Spring and Summer after a winter of covering them up with sweaters and coats. I got this awesome bracelet from BeauxBlues, a jewelry shop on Etsy that has super classy and chic pieces! I love it because it’s lightweight, making it perfect for Summer.

Take a closer look at this bracelet and other cool pieces here.

2. Baseball Caps

When I’m done protecting my eyes from the sun, I move onto protecting my face! Hats are a pail-person’s savior! As someone who hates wearing sunscreen, I always prefer to hide my skin with hats.  My two go-to hats this summer are hot pink leather and brown leather baseball caps.  I like them because they’re casual, yet stylish and the leather just adds that extra chic touch.

3. Mirrored Lens Sunglasses

Mirrored shades are all the rage.  I like the most bold colors like blue, pink, orange, or red.  Just a few years ago, sunglass trends were all about the size and shape.  While that still matters, lens color and type is really what’s important now. I recently convinced my mom to buy a pair of gold mirrored lens sunglasses. At first she thought they were too weird, but she now loves them and they look amazing on her.  That just goes to show that this trend is great for all ages.

Are these sunglasses too weird?!

red dress and jewelry

That was a trick question.  They can’t be TOO weird.  Weird is great.

Summer Accessories

Okay I’m pretty sure I can’t quite pull off the backwards cap look, but I’ll always keep trying! The bracelet speaks for itself.  It’s the best part of this look!

Simple Summer Outfit Ideas

navy tank top

Finally warm weather is upon us! The other day when I was out in the evening with this tank top on, that’s when I realized winter is officially over…it took long enough!

Keep it Simple

For the above look, I took two different tones of navy to create a simple and flirty look.  Although you can’t see it that well, I put a flower in my hair to make the look a bit more tropical – we were going to a tiki bar that night!

I kept my shoes simple because I wanted my outfit to be the center of attention.  When you want the outfit to really be the star, consider putting your hair in a bun, especially if you have really long hair.  It was a hot night, so I kept my hair off my shoulders so I could feel the breeze on my shoulders.

Accessorize Minimally

For this look I wore my Gucci sunglasses, a watch, diamond stud earrings, beige hair clip flower, simple dancing diamond pink necklace, and a few rings.  The hot weather always makes me want to wear less.  I like keeping my prep time as short as possible so the less I put on, the better.

How to Style a Dress to Flatter Your Body Type

red dress

Accessorize

When I first ordered this red dress online I thought that it was the most beautiful thing I had seen.  I was wondered it wouldn’t look good on me…red never does…but I bought it anyway because it looked good on the model and I hoped it would do me justice as well.

When I first put it on I stared in the mirror thinking I had just been swallowed up by a sea of red.  It hung past my knees (thanks to my height complex), it had tons of extra material that did absolutely nothing to show off the curves of my body, and it did absolutely nothing for my fair skin tone.

Months later, in another attempt to make this dress work, I tried it on again.  This time I paired it with a pink hat and silver hoop earrings.  I started to get a bit of a boho vibe, totally something that i strive for in my everyday wardrobe.

I snapped a few pics and watched my enthusiasm die as I starred at a short girl trying to pull off a tall girl’s dress.  Then I slipped on high heel boots.  Okay, I can fake my height a bit.

There’s nothing I can do about the fact that red is not my color, but I wanted it to be so I stuck with it.

Add Shape

Then I complained to my boyfriend that the dress was still drowning me.  He suggested I throw on a belt.  I couldn’t believe it but it helped!  It was like a whole new dress.  I had a shape, I had accessories to make it pop, I had heels to fix my height complex, and now I had a whole new look to wear to boozy brunches, wine touring, and classy affairs.

I wore this red dress look to a fashion event in the city and the cameras kept following me all night.  If I hadn’t of been wrapped up in finding a pair of Manolo Blahnik’s to add to my shoe collection, I might have loved it.

red dress

I brought out the beautiful red color of this dress by pairing it with a variety of pink and brown.  Last but not least, I wore my Gucci sunglasses to make the look even more chic.

The Best Colorblocked Clothing and Accessories for Spring

Spring fashion

I got this dress many years ago from Mango. To this day, it is still one of my favorite dresses that I own. Wearing the most flattering colorblocked dresses comes down to finding ones that incorporate shapes and colors in a way that accentuates your body’s curves in all the right places. For example, vertical stripes down the side of your body can make you look slimmer, whereas horizontal stripes near the waist can make you appear larger. It’s all about positioning and body type.

Here are a few colorblocked items from Revolve that would look very flattering for all kinds of body types.

5 Black Leather Jackets to Wear When you Ditch your Winter Coats

I know that it hasn’t stopped snowing everywhere yet, but at some point it has to right? Finally it will be time to take off the bulky layers and downsize to a light Spring jacket. This black leather jacket from Zara is one of my go-to’s. It goes with everything and makes any of my “feminine/girly” looks just a touch edgier.  Plus, black on black is always a great idea.

Four COLORS YOU NEED THIS SPRING

Butter Nail PolishEssie Nail PolishButter Nail Polish

I’m always on the hunt for the hottest new nail polish color for every new season. While the cold winter weather wraps up, it’s time to ditch those rich dark hues and replace them with soft Spring colors.  Although orange is normally thought of as a Fall color, this bright Essie one could be alternated with other similar hues to create a nail polish ombre look that would be perfect combined with your favorite beach bag in hand and your sunshine-ready shades.

Nothing says you’re ready for warm weather better than some freshly painted white nails. If you’re looking to add some more color to your neutral wardrobe, soft pink and teal blue are hot colors for this Spring.

3 Ways to Stay Stylish when it’s Freakin’ Freezing Outside

I love when I come across those open-toe suede booties in stores in March and think what crazy person is itching for frost-bitten toes. Oh wait, that’s me.

When I moved to California in 2013, winter trends like open toe booties (which I thought seemed like an oxy-moron), off-the-shoulder sweaters, and short-sleeve coats all seemed very weird to me. If it’s hot enough to wear open toe shoes, why wear booties? If it’s cold enough to need a sweater, why keep your shoulders bare?  If you have to ruin your outfit with a coat, why cut the sleeves off?

That’s when I discovered warm winters and realized that it can be fun dressing for “winter” if you don’t actually have to worry about the cold.  But when you’re stuck in a locale where you can see your breath when you’re walking outside, you actually need to cover and zip shit up, if you know what I mean.

Faux fur coats are a staple for cold winters.  Being the wild fashionista I am, I chose one that’s pink. Hot pink. Bundling up on top makes it a bit easier to keep the legs bare in a skirt.

It took two minutes for me to whip this outfit together before heading out for brunch.  I paired a simple black leather skirt with a fun graphic tee, slipped into my sparkly pink sneakers, then threw on the pink fur coat with an obnoxiously large pair of gold earrings.

Three Winter Red Dresses Perfect for a Night Out

Express red dress

I spent many years avoiding red dresses believing that they didn’t flatter my skin tone and my auburn hair. It wasn’t until this season when I saw hundreds of red dresses that I just couldn’t resist. I loved this red dress from Express because it was elegant, sexy, and understated yet stylish. Midi dresses give you the comfort and sophistication you don’t get with mini dresses. The shoulder cut-outs make this dress perfect for date nights out on the town.

Although the Express dress is no longer for sale, here are a few others that are sexy, stylish, elegant, feminine, and totally chic.

Why the Grammy’s are just a Political Throwdown Now

Ten years ago I watched the Grammy’s to see my favorite bands perform, dance in my room, and cheer on my favorite musical artists.  This year I find myself watching the show to see who makes the biggest political statement…and yeah okay the live musical performances are nice too.

Political statement number one came from an American singer I had never heard of before, Joy Villa.  She wore a dress with a fetus in a womb on it and a handbag that said pro-life.  Props to you for using fashion to give you publicity but lets all agree, that if you’re pro-trump in Hollywood then you’re setting yourself up for bad publicity.

For those who are still focused on the fashion.  The best way to stun your audience is with a neutral gown.  For those who don’t have the budget of a celebrity, here are a few that are elegant, stunning, and affordable.BCBG gown

The #1 Thing People Say you Can’t Wear after Labor Day – But, you Totally Can

White – There’s a great myth that fall time means dark colors, rich hues, and heavier fabrics.  Living on the West Coast taught me that obeying seasonal fashion rules is as extinct as listening to CD’s.  Some people say that white shirts are always acceptable, but white bottoms are not.  I spent many years packing away my white jeans and white skirts every September, and then pulling them back out again every May.

The best way to make a white outfit fit for Fall is to add Fall accessories like a pair of high heel booties or a knitted beanie.

The only fashion guide you should follow is the weather.  If it’s warm and sunny, wear sandals and tanks, if it’s cool and cloudy wear sweaters and booties. There are no go-to seasonal rules to follow anymore, the fashion game is a lot less judgmental.

The Must-Have Fashion Item of the Summer

No, the must have fashion item of the summer is NOT a pink motorcycle.  I however felt the need to pose with this one because it made my inner spirit animal truly happy.  Once again, this is proof that dreams really do come true when you’re walking the streets of San Francisco.

The must have fashion item of this summer is – drum roll please – the white miniskirt!  It may not be the most practical item in your closet but it is your most show-stopping piece for summer and I’ll tell you why!

1 – It goes with everything

Wear it with your favorite bold color top like hot pink or bright blue.

2 – You can achieve a “sophisticated sexy” look with a monochromatic outfit

Wear it with a black top and keep things simple and classic.

3 – White skirts show off your confidence

White skirts aren’t the most forgiving item in your closet.  Black is often considered the edgier color, like when you wear a black leather jacket. But to be honest, only true badasses can pull off white!

4 – White screams “SUMMER VACAY”

No beach vacation is complete without some white attire.  White skirts work great as bathing suit coverups.

One last piece of advice: be sure to find a white skirt that isn’t see-through! That’s half the battle. Opt for thicker fabrics, or ones that have linings.

Unexpected Ways to Add Florals to your Spring Wardrobe

While I’ve always said that less is more when it comes to floral garments, over the years I’ve slowly become a floral admirer.  Jeans like these, from Armani Exchange, are part of the reason why!

Armani Exchange

I have a bit of a girl crush on these white skinny jeans because they incorporate florals in the most tasteful way!  Years ago if you would have asked me to wear a pair of typical floral pants I would have said, “hell no, but my grandma might like them.” Now, to a pair of perfectly summery white skinny jeans with sky blue floral accents, I would say “hell yes!”

While I never really associated floral with “sexy,” this season there have been so many dresses with high slits and feminine necklines that I think my perspectives on florals are definitely changing.

The Pair of Jeans that Caused an Internet Uproar + Other Fashion Trends your Grandparents Won’t Understand

The article’s title states that your grandparents won’t understand these trends, but lets be honest I, along with many others, don’t really understand them either.

Yesterday, Nordstrom was under fire for selling a pair of intentionally mudded jeans for $425.

Nordstrom’s product description stated that these jeans, “…embody rugged, Americana workwear that’s seen some hard-working action with a crackled, caked-on muddy coating that shows you’re not afraid to get down and dirty.”  But I want to let you all in on a secret.  I know of a way you can get the exact same look, and trust me you’ll have a lot more fun doing it and it won’t cost you $425.  Put on a pair of your jeans, find your nearest ditch, then roll around in it. Repeat until your jeans are muddy to your desire.  It may cost you a bit of your dignity, but hey you’ll be “in-fashion” and you’ll still have your $425 in the bank!

The same brand was also selling this pair of jeans.  Although their regular retail price was $395, they’re now on sale for $177.

Once again, for this style of jean I can let you in on another secret.  You can get this look for a lot less.  Buy a pair of cheap jeans, then buy white and black paint.  Then roll around in it.  Voila!  I just saved you $200.  Your welcome.

Men’s fashion isn’t the only one jumping on this strange bandwagon.  Women’s fashion this season is filled with ripped clothing and see-through clothing, which questionably defeats the purpose of wearing clothing in the first place.

If you thought those mudded jeans were bad, how do you feel about see-through jeans?

While the internet erupted over the $425 mudded jeans from Nordstrom, I wonder how this $750 ripped Givenchy tee at Nordstrom didn’t get any flack?

Forever 21

Forever 21

Ripped sweaters don’t have to be expensive though.  You can get cheap version from Forever 21.

Dammit!  Why did I throw away all those shirts and sweaters that ripped when I was a kid. Maybe hoarders have the right idea.  You never know when your trash may become a fashion trend, proving that almost anything is possible in 2017!

Note: Although this article may seem critical of these bizarre fashion trends, I just want to be clear that I LOVE weird fashion trends.  In fact, the weirder the better!  And if those mudded jeans were $40 and didn’t have any mud around the crotch area, then they may actually be pretty cool!  As for the see-through jeans, if you can deal with how uncomfortable they are, then why the hell not?  They’re weird and awkward, but then again, “weird and awkward” are two of the best characteristics in fashion…and in people, right?!  As for the very “holy” clothing, I think distressing can look awesome when it’s done right, but sometimes it just looks a little too forced when the rips are overwhelmingly present throughout the garment.

Say Goodbye to Part of Your Childhood: All Bebe Stores are Closing

The store that was literally the source of all my slightly scandalous dresses as a teenager, is now coming to a close.  Bebe stores across North America have been struggling for a while now. Earlier this month they announced they’d be shutting down 28 stores.  Now they’ve just announced that they’ll be shutting down all stores and their online website, leaving me to wonder where I’ll buy all my overly tight, ravishingly uncomfortable, slightly gaudy dresses.  Or, maybe I already have enough??

There was a time not too long ago when I considered entering the retail landscape.  Now, I couldn’t be more deterred!  All brick and mortar stores that use to be powerhouses are now rapidly shutting stores and trying to cut costs.

So who is taking the place of all our favorite brick and mortar stores? Online retailers, including the ultimate powerhouse, Amazon.

I’ll be honest and say it’s been a very long time since I’ve set foot in a physical store, but only mere hours since I’ve visited online stores.  Okay, fine let’s be honest I was searching online stores just five minutes ago and my shopping bags are already more filled than my makeup bag.

5 Ways to Make “Preppy” Style Way Cooler

It’s not lost on me that my early college years are over.  Those days I thought I was so cool and classy because I was wearing a headband and an argyle sweater with a collar, really don’t happen anymore.

Of course, “preppy” never really goes out of style, but the way in which it’s carried out, definitely does!  Here are FIVE ways to wear “preppy” style in a modern, refreshing way:

  1. Plaid skirts are one of the most stereotypical school girl items.  So how do we wear this item without fitting into this stereotype?  Try to find ones that have a grunge vibe going on as well.  A burgundy, navy, and white plaid skirt like the one above can definitely be termed “grunge” when paired with a black leather moto jacket, or be termed “classy and sophisticated” when worn with a black turtleneck.  It’s all about how you spin it!
  2. This Spring we’re going to be seeing blazers everywhere!  Blazers are no longer a preppy professional item.  Blazers can be worn with jeans for a totally chic weekend look.  While I used to be a huge fan of blazers, I’m still a bit too caught up in leather moto jackets at the moment.
  3. Be preppy in pastels.  Spring is one of my favorite times of year because it means a switch from dark, bold colors to soft, feminine pastels.  Any “preppy” look with a hint of soft shades will help bring some much needed “feminine glam” into the look!
  4. Straight hair with internal layers.  Although I generally prefer to curl my hair, I was recently reminded of how sleek and sexy straight hair can be when done right.  Old school preppy looks often featured pin straight hair of the same length.  This look got boring fast!  Modern preppy welcomes straight hair with a twist: lots of layers and long side swept bangs!
  5. Soft pink lipstick.  The “preppy” look is a lot better when it’s got an added feminine vibe. Pink lipstick, either matte or glossy, will definitely do the trick!

This Spring’s Hottest White Tops to Buy without Breaking your Budget

For strategic reasons, I don’t often buy white tops.  They stain easily, they lose their bright white color in the wash, they’re sometimes see-through, they require white bras, and they turn yellow when you sweat.  Putting those common issues aside and focusing on style, there are so many different ways to complete your look with a white top!

The guide to buying the hottest white tops starts with one of the trendiest styles this season: the off-the-shoulder top!

There are so many off-the-shoulder varieties to choose, including:

The simple classic elastic band:

Nordstrom ($35)

The half on half off:

Nordstrom ($26.98)

The subtly sexy criss cross:

Nordstrom ($49)

The more conservative long sleeve:

Forever 21 ($22.90)

Shopbop ($19.50)

And finally, when you don’t want off the shoulder, the classic white peplum top is the perfect professional and chic top for work attire.

Macy’s ($29.99)

White tops are perfect to pair with your favorite skinny or flare jeans! When you want to make them work appropriate, pair them with wide leg trousers or a pencil skirt.

The Greatest Boots are Sky High

Sometimes all we need to update our wardrobe is a pair of boots that are thigh high without the price being sky high! Am I right?

There are very few perks in experiencing winter.  Some will say skiing is a perk; I’d argue that’s more of a chore.  Some would say snow is so pretty, I’d say palm trees are more pretty and they don’t turn us into an icicle.  Some would say winter makes us appreciate summer; I say I’d still appreciate summer if summer were all year round.

One thing we can agree on is that knee-high or thigh-high boots are a big part of making winter tolerable.

The Simple Spring Fashion Trend we all Love

This weekend we’re turning our clocks forward! Every year I look forward to this time change because it means one extra hour of sunlight each day.  As Spring approaches, I can’t help but reflect on one of my favorite Spring trends: shedding clothes.

When the weather heats up, the sweaters come off.  While my style is normally synonymous with flashy, bold, girly, and chic, the Spring and Summer months often bring out my desire for casual basics that keep life simple.

Faded jeans and a tank top, paired with flip flops is usually as basic as I’ll go.  Of course sparkly rings and a little bit of lip gloss will probably liven things up a bit, but nonetheless, the simplicity will still be there.

Happy International Women’s Day!

Kim K Just got the Weirdest Pain-Free Piercings

Just when you thought you’ve seen it all, Kim Kardashian makes another bold move.  While I don’t normally keep track of her style or beauty choices, this one sure has everyone intrigued…or creeped out?

screen-shot-2017-01-27-at-4-51-57-pm

There are so many questions to ask.  What prompted this decision?  How would a person clean the dishes with nails like this? (Okay, I get it, Kim K probably isn’t cleaning any dishes).

Do the nail piercings come with a broomstick because I have to admit they do remind me somewhat of witchcraft?  Do they make a lot of noise like wearing a bunch of wrist bangles?

I will always applaud new inventions, experimentation, and the willingness to be different, especially when it comes to fashion and beauty choices, but has this gone too far?  Will nail piercings be the new trend? What do you think?

Beer Takes Over Once Again: Beer Yoga is Now a Thing

screen-shot-2017-01-19-at-12-34-03-pmMy last article was about the invention of shower beer.  Now open your minds to yoga beer. While it might seem like a weird idea, it’s a simple concept to explain.  You drink beer while doing yoga.

Some people may say that there is nothing better than drinking a cold beer at the end of the day to unwind.  Some people swear by yoga as their zen enhancer.  Looks like we’ve now got a meeting of the minds, at least in Germany and Australia where beer yoga is an actual thing!

The founder of Beer Yoga, Jhula, takes this concept very seriously:  “We take the philosophies of yoga and pair it with the pleasure of beer-drinking to reach your highest level of consciousness.”

Sounds good to me, I’m in!  Are you?

Personally, I think I reach my highest level of consciousness when I’m shoe shopping.  I’ve also been known to get a burst of creativity and an influx of brilliant ideas when I’m drinking wine, so…

Who wants to invent wine and shoe shopping?

Shop all the Trends from the Golden Globes: Dresses, Jewelry, and Makeup

What’s on the Red Carpet, should be in our closets and our makeup bag.  The Golden Globe Awards were filled with plunging necklines, chunky jewelry, lots of sparkle, flattering and elegant neutral makeup, and much more.

Clothing

Starting with dresses, you can’t go wrong with a plunging neckline, but you might want to invest in some good fashion tape to avoid any nip slips.

Since we don’t all have red carpet events to attend, sometimes we want dresses we can wear for casual events.  This semi see-through red hot dress would work great in the day time with some boho inspired jewelry, or at night with some Swarovski to add some dazzle.

Neiman Marcus

Sometimes the best way to look stunning is by looking classically sexy in black.  There are two sayings I live by, and they are a) you can never have too many shoes, and b) you can never go wrong with black.  This dress from Saks proves my point.

Saks Fifth Avenue

Jewelry

Jewelry at the Golden Globes was not simple or delicate by any means.  It’s all about size and sparkle.  While some may call that flashy, in moderation it’s not flashy; it’s sexy and feminine and it ought to be a part of every woman’s style regimen!

Beauty

To get the beauty looks from the Golden Globes, start with big eyelashes and a neutral shadow.  For lips, while we did see some punchy dark hues, the best looks had a pinky-plum matte lipstick that was sophisticated and chic.
