Mastering the Art of a Costume Party

I’ve never really been that into costume parties, primarily because I always chose my costumes five minutes before the party.  Recently however, I’ve discovered how much fun a costume party can be if you LOVE your costume, and put more than five minutes of thought into it.

Several years ago my dad got me a pink hard hat and that’s when construction worker became my “go-to” costume.  I finished off the look with a construction vest and a pink tool belt for my waist.

Every costume needs something special to make it stand out.  While the pink hard hat is already pretty flashy, I wore 6-inch platform heels to feminize the look a tad bit more!

The best costumes, in my opinion, are the ones that are loosely based off something, and then bedazzled with your own burst of personality.  Since my daily style is typically ultra-feminine and girly, for costume parties it’s fun to play a different role, a more masculine role…Something out of my comfort zone, but oddly satisfying and quirky.  The construction worker costume fits all my requirements.

While I didn’t fix any pot holes this weekend (Sorry San Francisco!), I did have a lot of fun pretending.

The Greatest Boots are Sky High

Sometimes all we need to update our wardrobe is a pair of boots that are thigh high without the price being sky high! Am I right?

There are very few perks in experiencing winter.  Some will say skiing is a perk; I’d argue that’s more of a chore.  Some would say snow is so pretty, I’d say palm trees are more pretty and they don’t turn us into an icicle.  Some would say winter makes us appreciate summer; I say I’d still appreciate summer if summer were all year round.

One thing we can agree on is that knee-high or thigh-high boots are a big part of making winter tolerable.

The Simple Spring Fashion Trend we all Love

This weekend we’re turning our clocks forward! Every year I look forward to this time change because it means one extra hour of sunlight each day.  As Spring approaches, I can’t help but reflect on one of my favorite Spring trends: shedding clothes.

When the weather heats up, the sweaters come off.  While my style is normally synonymous with flashy, bold, girly, and chic, the Spring and Summer months often bring out my desire for casual basics that keep life simple.

Faded jeans and a tank top, paired with flip flops is usually as basic as I’ll go.  Of course sparkly rings and a little bit of lip gloss will probably liven things up a bit, but nonetheless, the simplicity will still be there.

Happy International Women’s Day!

Get the West Coast Working Girl Look

When I was a kid, I always dreamed of having a job where I could dress fancy, crazy, and ultra chic.  Being an East Coaster, style always meant dresses, skirts, and high heels.  Style was often synonymous with “dressing up.”

Living on the West Coast for several years now has taught me that looking ultra chic and wildly stylish can be done in a more casual way.  In fact, combining typically “dressy” items with our casual “favorites” can result in some very cool looks.

Pairing fancy and fem pieces with a ripped pair of jeans can surprisingly take you from morning to night.

That 90’s grunge look that keeps popping up, like those leather moto jackets or those plaid shirts, can all be made appropriate for work when paired with the right classic and chic pieces.

When funky meets fem, you’ve got yourself some serious style!

Tuesday Shoesday

Whether you’re celebrating Tuesday Shoesday, Taco Tuesday, or Valentine’s Day…or all three, your style is a vital component.

Some may say the lingerie is the most important part of any Valentine’s Day look.  However, I’d of course argue it’s the shoes…primarily because half the time I’m not wearing any lingerie..

Whether you agree or not, Taco Tuesday is the perfect opportunity to wear something that makes you feel special.  Tuesday Shoesday should inspire your weirdest shoe obsessions.  I wore these shoes at the Fairmont Hotel and garnered lots of heart-warming awkward stares.

Here’s to wearing your heart on your shoes all day!

Happy V-Day!

5 Wardrobe Pieces Every Millennial Needs in their Closet

As millennial’s, we’re running from work to happy hour to our dinner dates often without being able to go home in the midle.  When time is limited and our style is important, how do we satisfy both?  The key for style success as a millennial involves five key wardrobe pieces.

The Edgy Leather Jacket

Leather jackets are one of the most versatile pieces you can own because they give off a different vibe depending on how you pair them.

The Strapless Bra

The strapless bra may be your most convenient piece in your wardrobe because it will work with a wide variety of outfits.  In the day of course you’re more than covered, but at night when you want to strip down to your strapless dress, you’ll be covered without those annoying bra straps showing.

Little Black Cocktail Dress

This off-the-shoulder dress is the perfect example of a dress that will make you love the convenience of your strapless bras.  A sweater of jacket can make it more conservative by day.  It’s simple and elegant and can be dressed up with the perfect jewels for an evening out.

The Chunky High-Heeled Bootie

Of course we all want to impress when we say we’ve been wearing our high heels all day from the office to our walk home or to the bar, but who really wants to do it in stilettos?  A chunky high-heeled bootie with a cushy sole and a small platform is a woman’s best friend and best kept secret.

The Baseball Cap

While I’ve never been much of a hat person, I recently found a brown leather baseball cap that has proven to be invaluable to me on many different occasions.

Whether you’re going to a sports game, hiding from the sun, running errands without makeup, or just trying to add some sportiness to your look, a leather baseball cap is a more stylish alternative to the typical sports baseball cap that many guys wear.

Getting Ready in 10 Minutes or Less

Whether you’re jetting off to a protest or just running a few errands, getting ready in 10 minutes or less is always an accomplishment!  Everyone knows that on average, a guy can get ready much faster than a woman, partially because they don’t have to worry about makeup, nail polish; they have less clothing options, less shoe options, and often short easy-to-manage hair. As a woman, I refuse to accept this; if I want to be out the door in 10 minutes, I will, and I’ll look good doing it!img_6860

As a woman with long hair, a large clothing collection, and an even larger shoe collection, getting ready isn’t always quick or simple.  While I do sometimes take pleasure in curling my hair or trying on a million different shoes to pick the right one, on days when I want to accomplish tasks quickly and run a few errands, getting ready in 10 minutes or less is very helpful and all the styling can be easily fast-tracked.

While I’m never the one to sport sweatpants in public (I keep my fashion standards a tad higher, even on my casual days), my go-to fashionable, comfy outfit is simple and effective.

Step 1: Throw on a pair of flared stretch tights/yoga pants.  I prefer flared to skinny because the flare helps them look less like workout clothes and more like comfortable “get work done” kind of clothes.

Step 2: A tank top, bra is optional.

Step 3: A t-shirt (I actually wore the t-shirt I slept in under this jacket just to cut down on my “picking out clothes” time) but do what you think is necessary.

Step 4: Neutral-colored jacket. I chose this windbreaker because it looks sporty, but not too sporty, it looks casual, but not frumpy, and it’s lightweight and comfortable!

Step 5: Now for the hair and makeup routine.  My secret?

I’m wearing no makeup.  About 30 seconds before I head out the door, I put a tiny bit of Clinique’s moisturizing color lip balm on my lips to keep them soft.

So how do I get away with going sans makeup? I sport Ray-Ban shades and a leather hat!

Step 6: I did nothing with my hair so there really is no step 6.  I let the natural waves that developed from having my hair in a bun, work their magic!

And there we go, ready in 10 minutes or less!

Kim K Just got the Weirdest Pain-Free Piercings

Just when you thought you’ve seen it all, Kim Kardashian makes another bold move.  While I don’t normally keep track of her style or beauty choices, this one sure has everyone intrigued…or creeped out?

There are so many questions to ask.  What prompted this decision?  How would a person clean the dishes with nails like this? (Okay, I get it, Kim K probably isn’t cleaning any dishes).

Do the nail piercings come with a broomstick because I have to admit they do remind me somewhat of witchcraft?  Do they make a lot of noise like wearing a bunch of wrist bangles?

I will always applaud new inventions, experimentation, and the willingness to be different, especially when it comes to fashion and beauty choices, but has this gone too far?  Will nail piercings be the new trend? What do you think?

Will Melania Trump be our Next Fashion Icon?

After hearing about all the designers that refused to dress Melania Trump for the inauguration, most people have agreed that her outfit was stunning and very obviously reminiscent of Jackie Kennedy.  First Lady’s are known to rocket to “fashion icon” status as soon as they enter the White House, just look at Michelle Obama, or Jackie Kennedy. This time should be no different.  The classic designer, Ralph Lauren, stayed true to the brand and created a look that celebrated true iconic American style.

If you were one of the many who chose to forgo watching the inauguration, the only thing you missed were some beautiful ensembles worn by the new First Lady.

During the day Mrs. Trump wore a sky blue cashmere cropped jacket over a sky blue mock turtleneck dress with suede gloves and a suede clutch that were also in sky blue. Unlike many times when she wore her hair down, this time her hair was up in a soft updo.

While she didn’t set any new trends, she channeled one of the most memorable first ladies, Jackie Kennedy, and rocked a hue that represented class, charm, sophistication, and timelessness.

If you focused real hard, you may have even been able to time warp back to the 60’s.  One of my favorite designer collections was Gucci’s Fall 2014 runway show.  I couldn’t help but be reminded of the 60’s inspired colors and shapes from this collection.  Do you see the resemblance?gucci-fall14

Mrs. Trumps’s evening gown was just as stunning as her day time ensemble.  The off the shoulder, cream colored gown was sophisticated, smart, and elegant.  While some of her past outfits have been held under controversy for being too sexy (which by the way, they totally were not and people really just need to stop being stupid), this gown was stunningly gorgeous.  One of Mrs. Trump’s goals as First Lady is to conquer bullying.  Let’s start by not picking a fuss over a beautiful lady looking beautiful and sexy, despite what we may or may not think about her husband’s politics.

All we should learn from the inauguration is that sky blue is the way to go, the off the shoulder trend is here to stay (at least for the time being) and a dress slit can go a long way! Sometimes the smallest details can be the foundation for the most sophisticated look.

Beer Takes Over Once Again: Beer Yoga is Now a Thing

screen-shot-2017-01-19-at-12-34-03-pmMy last article was about the invention of shower beer.  Now open your minds to yoga beer. While it might seem like a weird idea, it’s a simple concept to explain.  You drink beer while doing yoga.

Some people may say that there is nothing better than drinking a cold beer at the end of the day to unwind.  Some people swear by yoga as their zen enhancer.  Looks like we’ve now got a meeting of the minds, at least in Germany and Australia where beer yoga is an actual thing!

The founder of Beer Yoga, Jhula, takes this concept very seriously:  “We take the philosophies of yoga and pair it with the pleasure of beer-drinking to reach your highest level of consciousness.”

Sounds good to me, I’m in!  Are you?

Personally, I think I reach my highest level of consciousness when I’m shoe shopping.  I’ve also been known to get a burst of creativity and an influx of brilliant ideas when I’m drinking wine, so…

Who wants to invent wine and shoe shopping?

Taking a Shower Just got a Whole Lot Better for Adults

Say the word “pre-drink” to any person in their twenties and they will understand.  A pre-drink lets you drink at someone’s home before venturing out to the bars for a night.  Now imagine, a pre-drink to the pre-drink.  As you’re taking a shower to get ready for your pre-drink why not start the fun early while you’re all wet and soapy and alone?

A Swedish brewery and creative firm have collaborated to introduce a shower beer that is a 10% pale ale.  It comes in a small 6 ounce bottle that is meant to be drank in just a few sips.  If that’s too much for you, don’t worry it doubles as a hair conditioner.

The shower beer sold out at the launch party.  Apparently, opposites attract: an ice cold beer tastes great in a steaming hot shower.  The success of the initial launch has made the company consider US distribution so perhaps we’ll all be drinking beer in the shower before we know it!

Shop all the Trends from the Golden Globes: Dresses, Jewelry, and Makeup

What’s on the Red Carpet, should be in our closets and our makeup bag.  The Golden Globe Awards were filled with plunging necklines, chunky jewelry, lots of sparkle, flattering and elegant neutral makeup, and much more.

Starting with dresses, you can’t go wrong with a plunging neckline, but you might want to invest in some good fashion tape to avoid any nip slips.

Since we don’t all have red carpet events to attend, sometimes we want dresses we can wear for casual events.  This semi see-through red hot dress would work great in the day time with some boho inspired jewelry, or at night with some Swarovski to add some dazzle.

Sometimes the best way to look stunning is by looking classically sexy in black.  There are two sayings I live by, and they are a) you can never have too many shoes, and b) you can never go wrong with black.  This dress from Saks proves my point.

Jewelry at the Golden Globes was not simple or delicate by any means.  It’s all about size and sparkle.  While some may call that flashy, in moderation it’s not flashy; it’s sexy and feminine and it ought to be a part of every woman’s style regimen!

One Trend you’re Guaranteed to See at Every Award Show

If you tuned into the Golden Globes last night you probably saw three distinct things: lots of skin, lots of sparkle, and lots of bling.  Every year stylists break down the trends from the red carpet. If you missed the Golden Globe Awards last night that’s okay because there is just one trend you need to know about and two stars you need to see wearing it.  The trend is: the plunging neck-line and the stars are Mandy Moore and Emma Stone.

When you know you’re going to see the same trend each time, you wonder how people can keep it interesting, but many did just that!  Mandy Moore took the approach of a superhero with her plunging neckline cape gown.  Her chunky earrings were the only bling she needed to make her look feminine and sophisticated.

Who wore the plunging neckline the best?  That would be Emma Stone and the reason? Her dress was sparkly!

Like the stars on her dress, Emma Stone really was a star last night.  Like many others, she wore one statement piece, a chunky necklace.

The Good Wife Comes back in the form of The Good Fight: 5 Reasons to be Super Excited

Courtesy of CBS

Courtesy of CBS

If you’re a loyal fan of “The Good Wife,” you’re in luck because a Spin-off is coming down the pike. The creators of the “The Good Wife,” Robert and Michelle King, have narrowed in on a few characters from “The Good Wife,” and are picking up the storyline a year after where they left off the finale of the Good Wife.  “The Good Fight” is not “The Good Wife” say the creators.  But here’s why we should be excited for it anyway:

  1. Our favorite characters are back! The show is centered around Diane Lockhart, Lucca Quinn, and Marissa (Eli’s daughter).  Marissa’s non-chalant ways, her ability to say things as they are, and her penchant for milk and sweets are just a few of the reasons why we love her.  Most of all, one of the BEST characters ever to exist on a TV show is coming back, which leads us to reason number 2:
  2. Actress Carrie Preston, known on The Good Wife as Elsbeth Tascioni, is doing an arc on “The Good Fight.”  The only person who can make us feel less socially awkward, is Elsbeth Tascioni.
  3. The creators of “The Good Wife” have proven to us that they can create one of the best law shows that has ever existed.  So why couldn’t they do it again?  Let’s all bet on the show being just as great as it was for “The Good Wife’s” seven-year stint on air.
  4. The show will be about rebuilding and getting up when you’ve fallen down.  After all, it is called, “The Good Fight.”  We’re ready with our dukes up.
  5. The start date was moved up from the Spring to February 19th, which means there’s only a month and a half before it premieres! Time to get excited!

Bachelor Highlights from this Week’s Premiere Episode

screen-shot-2017-01-04-at-10-56-09-amFor every season of the bachelor there are always THOSE people who say, “I don’t know why I’m watching this,” as they’re sitting there in their pajamas on the couch drinking red wine and eating pizza.  Then there are THOSE who will say, “That’s it, I can’t take it anymore, I’m not watching this season!” And then of course by mid-season they’re back into it.  The Bachelor is pretty hard to escape if you keep up with pop culture news sites, watch TV, or have friends!

So for any of you trying to resist the Bachelor, here’s just a quick update of what you missed episode 1.

A dolphin trainer dressed up in a shark costume, but thought she was a dolphin.

More than half the women wore red dresses.

Nick looked hotter than ever.

We already have a villain; her name is Corinne.

The token Canadian is Vanessa Grimaldi; she’s from Montreal, Quebec.  Nick definitely has a thing for her.

My prediction of who he’ll choose: Vanessa Grimaldi.

How to Make the RIGHT Kind of Resolutions

img_0543Does anyone else feel like it was 2004 just yesterday? Hopefully while you were soaking up the rays on your holiday vacation, you were also pondering the new year and what you can do to make it better!  The numbers might be moving forward but one thing that unfortunately often stays the same is the number of resolutions that go unsuccessful each year.  People have an innate tendency to see the future positively and to look at things as being easier to do at a later time in the future, like when we say we’ll exercise tomorrow…you know the drill! But the best thing we can realize now, is that the best time to do something is…NOW! not tomorrow!  Everyone’s guilty of procrastinating at one time or another, but there are things we can do to prevent our procrastination.

So what’s the secret to making resolutions that will actually stick?  No, you don’t have to shy away from the ones you really want, instead you need to make your resolutions small enough to be manageable.

Break it Down

Think of all your goals in terms of small pieces.  Break down your goals.  Don’t get stuck fearing the immensity.

Get There in Steps

Set specific tasks to reach each one.  The more specific you are, the better.

This year when asked what my resolutions were, I realized that I didn’t take time to think of anything specific beforehand so I did so after.  Every day of the year I take note of the skills I need to acquire, the ones I want to perfect, and the ones I’m working on every day.

In college I had one year where I was on the best sleeping schedule.  I went to bed at 9:30-10pm and woke up between 5-6am.  It was my most productive year, and now…I want it back!  To start, I’ll be less extreme.  Going to bed at 11pm and waking up at 7am is where I’ll start.

Stay Organized: Make Lists

As the work week begins make a general list of the tasks you want to accomplish each day and a timeline for doing so.  While breaking the days into hour increments will normally suffice, never shy away from getting even more specific.  Time is of the essence.

Envision your Goal Long Term, but Focus on it in the Short Term

There’s a fine line between overwhelming yourself with the future and seeing it clearly enough to stay focused on your goals long term.  When you set a goal, try to envision not only successfully completing the goal but making it last.  Reaching goals takes active attention in the short term, and a clear vision for the long term.

Know Going into it that you WILL Falter…but don’t Turn it into a Complete Fail

Ever heard of the “What the Hell Effect?”  It has been noted that when people cheat or do something they say they won’t, (i.e. they eat a bag of chips when they know they told themselves they wouldn’t), people will often cheat even more because they have the mindset, “Well, I already cheated so I might as well keep going…but I’ll start fresh tomorrow.”

SCREW the “What the Hell Effect!”  Even if you falter a bit, don’t make it worse! Recognize it, and stop it in its tracks.

Every year should be a year in which you learn, grow, change, improve yourself, love fiercely, live passionately, and laugh frequently.

Happy 2017!

The New Kind of Detox That Has Everybody Talking

As soon as we hear the word, “detox,” people immediately imagine a fridge filled with vegetable juices, a hungry belly, and maybe even a sauna.  Apparently, processed foods aren’t the only toxins people are discarding.

There is a new trend in town, and that is the “digital detox.”

Unlike the juice detox, a digital detox doesn’t limit your food consumption. Instead, it limits your access to your computers, smartphones, and iPads.  The first question you may ask yourself is, “Why would anyone do this?” Our technological advances are part of what keeps our civilization moving forward.  Our phones make us easily accessible; they act as our GPS, they record our favorite moments via pictures and videos, they give us access to the internet on the run, all of which are benefits we enjoy.  So why refrain?

Studies have shown that refraining from technology can help our posture, allow us to make deeper friendships, improve our memory, help us get more efficient sleep, and give us new and refreshing perspectives.

While many of you might currently be formulating your New Year’s resolutions, perhaps a temporary reduction of technology use should be added to the list.  Each person is unique and will feel this feat differently.  Some individual testers have described the experience as “life-changing.”  While I wouldn’t set the bar that high, at the very least, you may discover something new about yourself or the world!  Why not take this step in the new year!

Don’t let your phones be a conversation killer.  Like chocolate cake, technology is incredible in moderation.

All the Nail Polish Shades you Need this Winter

Neutral nail colors are totally in, but with a minor twist!  December time means holiday parties, a.k.a sequined holiday dresses; Christmas light decorations; and therefore, sparkly nails to match the sparkle all around town.  Whether or not your living in a climate with icicles on your roof and snowflakes on the ground, the holidays are a time when everything should glisten, including your nails.

It only takes three layers of polish to make this happen: your base solid color, the sparkly color on top, and a clear top coat over that to make it all really shine!  It’s always great to have a collection of nail polish to suit a variety of occasions.  For the classy events you need those deep neutral colors, and for everything else all you need this season are your various shades of pink!  Light pink when you’re feeling sexy and elegant, and hot pink when you’re feeling sassy!

Wardrobe Staples for any Ultra-Fem Fashionista

It’s no secret that the color pink makes up at least half of my wardrobe.  Between my ever-growing collection of pink handbags and my penchant for buying anything that sparkles, my closet would be the perfect playground for an all-girls elementary school.  Instead of show and tell, they could play dress up.

Every article I read about wardrobe staples, defines them as more “neutral” and “basic.”  But this commonly used definition is an overgeneralization.  A tomboy might live in raglan tees, a sports enthusiast might live in jeans and a jersey.  Different styles should have different staples.

My new favorite wardrobe staple are these light pink chunky heel booties from AMI Clubwear.  A “staple” should be anything that is comfortable enough and versatile enough to wear all the time and match with almost anything!  I wear these booties with skinny pants during the day, and dress them up at night with a little black dress.

In the winter, every wardrobe needs a jacket staple as well.  This year I’ve forgone the long trench coats and have slithered into a collection of leather moto jackets!  This light pink leather jacket from Zara can instantly turn a boring neutral outfit into a statement.

Last but not least, my ring-covered hand will be holding this hot pink leather bag from Danier leather.  After all, combining different shades of pink in one outfit is one of life’s many pleasures.

The Pursuit of Thanksgiving Happiness Broken Down into Lists

Happiness comes in many forms.  Tomorrow happiness will be shaped like a turkey for many people, or perhaps even a pumpkin pie.

I’ve gone to two Friendsgiving dinners in the past couple of weeks and both of them had two things in common:

  1. A ton of food
  2. The most sophisticated Fall decor

Tomorrow’s thanksgiving will be slightly different though because there will be two other things on our minds besides the food we eat and the dishes we eat them on.  I’ll be giving thanks for:

  1. the Gilmore Girls four part episode series premiering at midnight
  2. Black Friday sales

Before these events can commence, we need strategies for surviving the meal:

  1. Have a tiny bit of everything
  2. Ditch the before dinner rolls

When you’re in the middle of all the madness, take a deep breath and remember:

  1. Pace yourself, it’s not a race.
  2. Keep your wine glass full.

Make your life easier – what not to wear on Thanksgiving:

  1. Bodycon dress.  Where will the turkey go if you don’t let your stomach breathe?
  2. High-waisted skinny jeans.  You don’t have to go so far as to wear sweatpants, but remember that a stretchy waistband is probably best!

When the meal is over, two things will help you in your overly satisfied state:

  1. Sitting by the fireplace with a green tea in hand
  2. Watching a movie: preferably a cheesy one that starts with a family crisis and ends with a happy family sitting around the table enjoying a holiday dinner.  Bring on the sappiness.

Airport Style Essentials to Keep you Comfortable

With Thanksgiving around the corner most of you will be jetting off somewhere to spend the holiday with family or friends!  While being with family and eating obscene amounts of food you’d never normally eat is the fun part, getting there via flying is the necessary hassle!

There seems to be a common misconception that when you fly, the only way to be comfortable is if you look like you just got out of bed.  I remember a person once telling me that they would laugh at any woman they saw wearing heels in the airport.  Well, I’m definitely a woman that wears heels in the airport.  Just because I’m preparing for a journey through the sky, doesn’t mean I have to throw away my usual “style staples.”

Instead, there are a few style rules I follow when traveling.

  1. Layers: The only thing worse than being too hot on a plane, is being freezing cold on a plane.  I’ve definitely experienced both.  Living in San Francisco has taught me the art of layering.  It can be applied to airport style to give you ultimate comfort every step of your trip.

2. The pants you wear should be comfortable and soft.  Most importantly, whatever you wear should be long enough to cover your entire legs from touching those scratchy plane seats.  While many people choose leggings, a pair of soft flared jeans while give you even more style without compromising your level of comfort.

3. As for shoes, you should be able to walk quickly and efficiently in them.  That being said, there are a ton of heels that can be even more comfortable than flats!

4. A headband to keep your hair tucked comfortably behind your ears is always a plus.

5. Lastly, a cross-body handbag can go a long way when you’re juggling all your luggage.  The more time you can spend with nothing in your hands besides your passport and your plane ticket, the better.  A handbag with a cross-body strap will ensure you’ve always got your important items right on your person.

The Coziest Sweater Dresses to Scoop up Now

Sweater dresses are one of those hybrid trends that provide the style you want in your daily look, with the comfort you rarely achieve outside of your bed at home. Think of sweater dresses as the closest you can get to wearing a Snuggie in public.

While some sweater dresses are bulky and give you extra space all around (so you can eat a big Thanksgiving meal!), other sweater dresses are more tailored.

In the cold Fall/Winter weather, sweater dresses look great when worn with stockings.

So when is the best occasion to wear sweater dresses?  Well, if you’re living on the East Coast, sweater dresses are probably a staple in your wardrobe.  Weather you’re heading to class, to work, or out to happy hour sweater dresses solve your problem of wanting to look dressy while staying warm!

If you’re on the West Coast where nine out of ten people live in jeans, a sweater dress is a great way for you to show off your femininity in a dress while keeping your general vibe still “casual and cool.”

You can go as crazy as you want with a sweater dress.  Sometimes a crazy pattern is the way to go because you’re certainly not gonna turn any heads with your safely tucked away cleavage!

Sweater dresses beg for our creativity.  Combine a layered look sweater dress with a pair of stockings and pumps, and you’ve got a killer look for the office.

It’s important to exercise one caution when buying sweater dresses.  It’s one thing to dress comfy, but it’s another thing to surround yourself in so much fabric that it would take an entire army to find your body.

Sweater dresses can be notoriously “boxy” and take away all the natural shape you have to offer, like that dreidel costume your parents made you wear as a kid.

Despite what people say, a sweater dress can be very sexy, especially if you wear it with a pair of thigh high boots.

Sweater dresses can even show some skin!

If you’re not convinced of the magic of a sweater dress by now, you’ve obviously never experienced snow.  Or you’re a man.

Either way, there are so many sweater dresses to shop, if you weren’t a fan before, you should be one now!

Find out Why Jimmy Fallon Loves Gilmore Girls

With just 7 more days left until the new episodes of Gilmore Girls premieres, every Gilmore Girls fan is rushing to have a GG marathon in preparation.  It’s been a long 9 years waiting to discover Rory and Lorelei’s fate, especially when it comes to their love lives!

Although almost every guy will claim they don’t watch Gilmore Girls because it’s simply a “chick show” (so not true by the way!), Jimmy Fallon is stepping up and admitting he can’t get enough! Why is this? Because Stars Hollow has some of the funniest and most lovable characters!

He listed out his top four favorite characters (besides Lorelai and Rory of course)!  Luckily we’re going to see all of his favorite characters in the new episodes.

In 4th place is crazy town mayor Taylor!  What’s not to love right?  Between his dorky sweater vests, his wild beard, and his overenthusiastic personality, he’s a true Stars Hollow resident.

In 3rd place we have grumpy Luke.  Did you know that the show was originally going to cast a woman as the diner owner, but last minute they decided they needed more men in the cast! A Gilmore Girls without the Lorelai and Luke relationship would have never been the same!

In 2nd place we have a character that makes us feel less socially awkward in comparison.  Kirk! Jimmy Fallon claims Kirk is the best actor ever.   Apparently, he’s going to be dining with the Gilmores in Hartford in the new episodes but we’ll have to wait to find out why!

Finally, in the number 1 spot, Jimmy chose Paris! He said he loves her for her brain.  We’re guessing that her crazy, brainiac ways will return in the new episodes!  Check out the hilarious Jimmy clip!

Get the “I’m Gunna Kick Some Butt” Look

The “I’m gunna kick some butt” look is one of my all time favorites.  It is manufactured by the inner need to express yourself despite the consequences.  It is an important part of that empowering feeling when you learn to embrace your fashion favorites, and ignore the rules set before you.

The “I’m gunna kick some butt” look can come in many different forms, but there are a few vital characteristics that it often possesses:

a) Stand out jewelry.  Arming yourself with glitzy rings is a great way to start.

b) Something weird.  Wearing something weird like a pair of jeans with paint splatter says something about your willingness to accept yourself for who you are.  It not only shows your quirky side, it also shows your confidence to wear what ever pleases you.

c) Leather.  A kick butt outfit isn’t complete without some article of clothing that is made from leather.  Your best option is probably a biker jacket, a leather miniskirt, or tight leather pants. Each one shows that you mean business!

d) Something metallic.  Metallic items help you stand out.  In any “kick butt” outfit it’s always good not to shy away from the spotlight!

e) High heels.  This is a no-brainer.  High heels help a woman’s posture; they distinguish us from the opposite sex; and while not yet scientifically proven, they make us more efficient and productive because it’s pretty hard to have a bad day when your favorite shoes are lifting you up…literally.

f) And of course, it must include something sparkly like a sequined handbag because after all, sparkles are the most empowering part of any adult outfit.

This “kick butt” outfit can be found at Zara.

Outfits Too Sexy to Wear if President Trump is in your Vicinity

Ladies and Gentlemen, the people have chosen our President and now we have to endure the consequences.  I spent this morning listening to President Trump’s infamous video where he brags about being able to do anything, including sexually assaulting women, because he is a star.  And then I thought to myself, this is who the majority of America has elected, so now we must deal.

If you don’t want his lips being drawn to you like a magnet, (like he boasts in the video), here are some basic dress attributes to avoid.

  1. Say goodbye to cleavage.  Way too sexy.

2. Any leg slit in the dress is provocative as well so stay away!

3. V-necks are way too alluring.

4. Dresses with cutouts show too much skin.

5. Anything dominatrix style is out too.  Sends the wrong message.

6. Skirt lengths above the knee are unacceptable.

7. Bodycon dresses that hug your curves are way too sexy.

8. Off-the shoulder dress, although super trendy this season, just say no.

Taking all of these dress limitations into consideration, here is what your wardrobe should look like now:

Election Day Chaos Calls for Organization at Home

When everything is so disorganized, it calls for a little organization in your life…starting with your closet.  After you head to the polls and cast your vote, whether you’re filled with a sense of clarity, confusion, or worry, there’s no better way to de-stress than cleaning up the mess that you live with every day in your home.

After a long time of hating the pile of shoes taking up the entire floor of my closet, I finally ordered a shoe rack and did some much-needed organization.  Now I can actually step into my closet instead of admiring it from afar.

While achieving organization in a small apartment is sometimes tricky due to the sheer lack of space to store your items, it is possible.  All you have to do is think strategically and build upwards.  While I hope to one day need a shoe rack as high as a skyscraper to store all my high heels, this shoe rack with five shelves was a good start!  I actually added another shelf by extending two bars downwards so that the floor acted as another shelf, instead of having the bottom shelf sit right on the floor.  (Sure, this was an accident due to a building error that I was too lazy to go back and fix, but oh well it worked out for the best!)

When you’re staring at the heap of shoes lying messy on your closet floor, the thought of buying more shoes can make you a little tense!  After organizing my shoes on this shoe rack I discovered something great. There are three spots left on top, perhaps for a few new pairs of Fall’s hottest booties?  Jeffrey Campbell is definitely high on the list with all the pink booties they’ve debuted this season!

When everything’s lined up it’s easy to see the trends in your style choices.  It’s easier to see what you have and what you’re missing.  Organizing your closet should be a clear choice. Unfortunately, after having to make a Sophie’s choice in this election, you can now actually make a good one at home, with the only consequence being happiness and admiration for your newly improved living space!

How Vogue Just Upset Big-Breasted Women

The internet is going crazy over Vogue’s recent article about “cleavage” being out of fashion. In the fashion world, if Vogue says it, people believe it!  But can a body part really go out of fashion?  If anything, I’d say that short dresses that barely cover our butts and have to be pulled down every two seconds while walking, is the trend we should do away with before any other!

Cleavage is a natural part of a woman’s body.  Sure we can cover it up with conservative high-neck tops, but saying cleavage is out it like saying butts are out!  I’m sorry, certain things can never really be deemed “out of fashion.”

Showing cleavage has been a time-honored tradition in fashion magazines and runways for a long time now.  With our society taking so many steps forward, the risk of a possible nip-slip in a cleavage-bearing top, isn’t even that bad anymore!  Remember the 2004 Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake superbowl debacle?  That story was talked about forever!  If that were to happen again, it wouldn’t even make it to our Facebook trending topics.  Thanks to Miley Cyrus and Donald Trump, very little shocks us anymore.

For women with small breasts, achieving cleavage in a push-up bra is deemed a proud accomplishment: a way to feel sexier!  I say “sexier” instead of “sexy” because women should feel sexy no matter how they look, whether or not they are showing cleavage!

I think the only thing we should learn from Vogue’s statement about cleavage being “out of fashion” is that no one source, despite how powerful they may be can dictate certain rules. Some things never go out of fashion!

Why Business Trips are Never Just about the Business

Last week I took a business trip to Chicago for a trade show.  Not only was I probably the youngest one there, I was also the only one in the room wearing pink.  Most people probably think that business trips are about the work.  Let me show you how they’re not!

I may have talked to 5 or 6 people about the business, the products, or my role in the company, but I told about 20 people that I bought my shoes from Aldo.  A trade show gives you the opportunity to show off your style to a wider audience than the usual set number of coworkers in your office.  I may have shook hands with 30 new business men that I met, but the photo-op didn’t start until I met the man in a gorilla suit.

Business trips are about the city.  Taking an all expense paid trip to Chicago, a city I’d been wanting to visit, was half the fun!  A business trip takes you away from sitting behind your computer screen all day long.  This is when life happens.  New city means new dining experiences.  In Chicago, we ate at an amazing restaurant called Joe’s.  After all, you know your restaurant is good when you look over and see A-Rod dining at the table next to you.  True story!

The best part about a quick trip is the size of your luggage!  There’s something to be said about being able to get off a plane and head straight to the exit with just your carry-on.  This trip I was lucky enough to sit beside an ex-con on my way to Chicago.

But the real party started the next day at 3:00pm when we had a late lunch with cocktails.  Before dinner the party continued with drinks at our hotel, The Hyatt (we were really slumming it).  The party kept going with bottles of wine at dinner.  The party ended just after we finished our late-night drinks. I’d say all in all it was a productive day of…work.

The next morning we ate breakfast at our hotel.  I have to admit it was a little weird drinking orange juice that didn’t have champagne in it, but at least it was fresh-squeezed.

On the way to the airport I was sad to be leaving, but happy to know I was getting out of the city before the madness of the Cubs game began!  Little did I know the adventure wasn’t over yet! Just minutes before boarding the plane to fly home, I watched another plane’s engine explode into flames and black smoke on the tarmac.  There’s nothing like watching another plane on fire minutes before stepping onto your own plane.  Luckily the gin martinis from the previous night were still keeping me mellow.

While the “business” trip went by way too quickly, it sure was great!  And now I can tell people that every time I visit Chicago, the Cubs win the World Series!
