Put a Little Color in your Weekend Outfit

Yes, I know that neutrals are easier to match and hence you may end up getting more use out of them, but adding some vibrant colors into your mix of looks may be what your style is craving!  Ease yourself into some fun playful colors with this new handbag featured on the Nasty Gal website.  This handbag combines a mix of geometric shapes and colors to create a uniquely structured, stylish piece.

If you’re dressing up, here are two options that will keep your look fun, flirty, and vibrant.  First we have a strapless light purple body-con sequin dress that would totally have a Legally Blonde vibe if only it were pink.

And here is a matching top and skirt that could pass as a dress.  This look takes the tank top silhouette and basic mini skirt style to a whole new level of fun with bright pink sequins.  This one’s definitely got an Elle Wood’s thing going on.

Have fun keeping your look bright and colorful this weekend.

Outfit of the Day

Today’s outfit of the day is inspired by the desire to mix warm and cold color tones for a soft and intriguing look.  Throw on your favorite pair of colored skinny jeans in a red/burgandy/maroon/pink color tone.  Pair it with a similarly colored purse.  In this example I use the beautiful Stella McCartney handbag to bring out the color of the jeans.  To compliment the maroon, the look features soft beige boots.

Last but not least I added a blue button-down blouse and a watch with a blue face, to add some cheerful color to the look.  Keep this look simple without jewelry, or dress it up with a fun pair of hoop earrings or chunky necklace.

I hope you like today’s look.

Stay tuned for more OOTD’s.

Incorporating Color into your Everyday Wardrobe

Don’t let the grey skies of winter drain the color from your wardrobe.  A splash of color here and there, a fun pattern, or a burst of sequins may be the perfect thing to brighten up your outfit! But how much craziness is too much?

The golden rule: When there is too much going on, everything loses it’s value a little bit.

My favorite way to plan an outfit is by picking one statement piece and planning a clear and decisive look around it.  If you want to wear a bold deep green skirt, keep your shirt a neutral color, and pair soft and simple colors around it.  You want the green skirt to be the center of attention, so don’t let any other part of the outfit steal the show.

If you want to wear a plaid shirt, pair it with a pair of skinny jeans and rugged black or brown cowboy booties.  Since there’s already a lot of pattern going on with the shirt, leave your neck bare with no jewelry and add a simple pair of earrings.

If you want to rock your new electric blue blazer, pair it with a neutral-colored tank and a neutral-colored pair of pants.  Adding a silver or gold chunky necklace will compliment the blazer perfectly.

If you want to wear a pair of pants with a crazy pattern, don’t introduce any other new colors into the max.  For example, the colors in the pants below are accentuated in the outfit with the purple handbag, the grey shirt, and the rose pink and black pumps. Make the pants stand out by keeping the other elements simple.
