Fifty Shades of Pink

This summer it’s time to add a little pink to your look.  From handbags to shoes to coats to skirts to tops to lipstick to nail polish and much much more, take your pick of pink.  In handbags we’re seeing anything from a small clutch to a full-sized satchel in pink.  If you can’t afford the pink Chanel bag featured above, try the light pink knockoff from Aldo (also featured above).

Bring out the Elle Woods in you with pink lipstick, pink nail polish, and pretty pink pumps.

Want just a subtle touch of pink?  Keep your outfit neutral and add a touch of pink with a chunky necklace or a statement ring.

Pink shoes can go a long way in adding some flavor to a basic skinny jeans and t-shirt look.

Be a Style Icon in Bodycon

Dress: Forever 21

Dress: Forever 21

With the Spring approaching and warm weather on the rise, it’s time to do your legs some justice in bodycon silhouettes.  I experimented with my new navy bodycon dress from Forever 21, pairing it with different jewelry, different accessories, and colorful clothes.

Try pairing a solid-color dress with big, chunky, colorful jewelry like a bold pair of statement earrings or a statement necklace.  To add a touch of boho to the look, throw on some hair jewelry, either in the form of a chain headpiece or a jeweled headband.

To make your look more casual, try wearing a basic casual shirt over the dress.  You’ll still get the appeal of the tight body-forming skirt without having the entire skin-tight dress showing.

Next, it’s time to spice up the look with a colorful moto jacket.  I paired the navy dress with a 3.1 Philip Lim zip up jacket.  Leave it unzipped for a more casual, informal look.

To make the outfit a touch more glamorous, I added a Swarovski necklace.  Keep the jewelry simple when wearing a bold jacket so that you don’t have too many pieces fighting for all the attention.

Last but not least, I wore a pair of Jeffrey Campbell pointed toe stiletto pumps.  Because after all, Jeffrey Campbell can make every outfit a bit more special…

So have fun with bodycon styles this Spring.  Make them casual, make them fancy, make them sexy, or make them conservative…the choice is yours.

Nasty Gal’s Weekly Entertainment

I appreciate the attempt, but I’m a little confused Nasty Gal.

Fashion seems to be taking a weird turn lately.  We’ve got the men wearing no pants on the runways, and now women are classifying a dress as a bunch of pom-pom fluff balls being very not strategically pasted to ones body.

So here’s my question, would you ever wear this to a party?  I get weird looks sometimes when I dress up too much on the West Coast; I can’t even imagine what this dress would solicit. Perhaps a trip to the insane asylum?

Nasty Gal sure knows how to entertain us!  I’d love to hear your thoughts. $583.00! Those are some expensive fluff balls.  But who knows, perhaps I’ll be running out to the Michael’s store soon to buy myself some arts and craft pom-pom fluff balls (insert appropriate term here.)

Saturday Brunch

Today I was in the mood for a fancy home-cooked brunch, so I experimented with a bunch of ingredients in my cupboard and fridge and came up with a concoction that I think was actually not half bad.

Saturday Brunch Egg and Quinoa Stir-Fry

To get this look throw on your favorite pair of skinny blue jeans.  Pair it with a sleeveless black top.  Throw your oversized black and white herringbone coat overtop.  Add a pair of black booties…any heel height will work, but the higher the better! For an extra feminine touch, throw on a silver watch with a pink face.  Add some peachy color lipstick to your lips and you’ll be ready to rock the streets with your slammin’ style!

Over the Moon about this Oversized Bag and Oversized Coat

To get the perfect look this week in the cold weather, combine your fitted garments with baggy, oversized ones.

Created on the StyleChat App

Start with a fitted black turtleneck.  It’s chic, it’s casual, and it’ll hug your body like the chocolate on a chocolate covered pretzel. To keep the cold at bay, throw on a long, oversized coat.  There’s something ruggedly hot about an oversized coat.  If your short, don’t worry.  It may drown you, but it’s all part of the oversized look!

I got a little carried away with the shoes in this look, but if you’re feeling risque, go for a pair of heels with a intricate platform.

To continue with the oversized trend, add a large handbag to your look.  When in doubt, make it pink to stand out.

Last but not least, to finish off the look, add a pair of hanging earrings and a warm infinity scarf.

J. Molly

Casual Daytime Look

Today’s look is inspired by looking casual, feeling comfortable, and feeling sexy.  To start, throw on a pair of faded boyfriend jeans.  Pair it with a button-down plaid shirt or a solid blouse in an invigorating color.  Dust off your favorite pastel colored long coat and wear it open.  If it’s cold, add a scarf.  Last but not least, opt for a chunky pair of boots if you’re going to be doing a lot of walking, but if you’re planning on being stationary for the day, slip on those killer stiletto pumps instead.

Make your Statement: It’s all about the Shoes

It’s all about making a statement this week.  And no I do not mean shoving a pie in someone’s face.  I mean wearing a pair of shoes that make random people you don’t know, say “nice shoes!”

Take a look at these beauties.

B2 Shoes – Mimosa

Enough Said.

Here are some valuable tips from me to you:

You’re only as cool as the shoes on your feet.

You can’t fuck up a first impression if your shoes are in style.

People WILL judge you by your shoes.

No pain, no gain.

Fashion speaks louder than words.  Let your shoes do the screaming.

When your choosing a bag for this season remember three important details: 1. opt for a bag with a pop of color or shine 2. the bigger the better 3. don’t settle for anything less than exquisite.

The hottest designers for handbags this season are: Stella McCartney, Gucci, Miu Miu, and Dior.  Check out the pink bags that these designers have to offer.

Dresses Made from Condoms

Remember Lady Gaga’s dress made from raw meat? I’ve got something that can top it.  How would you like to wear a dress made out of condoms?  Brazilian artist and activist, Adriana Bertini, uses expired and defective condoms to create women’s dresses.  These dresses are not only meant to be beautiful and artsy, but they are also designed to raise awareness for condom use.

Courtesy of Huffington Post

The designer states that working with these condoms helps participants, “…resignify their role in society by strengthening their self-esteem and identity.”  I’m not sure exactly how using condoms to make dresses would affect a person’s self esteem; it’s not like they’re using the condoms the way they’re intended to be used.  As for the identity part, I don’t know why someone would want condoms to make up a part of their identity…shoes, yes…Chanel bags, definitely…but condoms?

There is definitely a movement towards using materials other than typical clothing materials to make garments.  Sometimes I’m all for it.  Would I like to see a condom dress in a fashion museum? Sure.  But would I be creeped out if I saw someone wearing one on the street.  Yes. But nonetheless I think Bertini has tapped into an artistic side that is fun and original, and certainly gotten me excited (no pun intended)!

There’s nothing like wearing a dress made out of condoms to remind a guy to cover up.  Remember, no glove no love.

Sensationally yours,

J. Molly

Failed Attempts at Fashion

Ever finish a night of partying with friends and wake up the next morning thinking…oh boy this was a bad idea?

Well, mistakes like that happen all the time…especially in fashion.  I’m here to air them out and bring awareness to the fashion faux-pas I’ve encountered in online stores.  For every 100 amazing garments a great store may sell, there’s usually at least one head-scratcher that makes you question the integrity of the store…or their sense of style…and at the very least you may wonder if the product developer had one too many that night.

But perhaps there is a market for everything out there.  Let me know what you think about these “attempts” at fashion…

The First Calamity:

sale ng

This outfit was on sale.  I wonder why?  There is nothing juicy about it.  And what’s with making the model look like Princess Leia?  The finger on the lips is accurate though…I’d question this outfit too if I was forced to wear it.

Disaster Number 2:

drink too much nordstrom rack

This is what happens when you drink too much, kids.  If the pattern on your pants is unsymmetrical and looks like someone got drunk with a spray bottle in hand, you should probably get an exchange.

Number 3:

flashback to clueless - vintage chanel - ng

Looks like someone has been watching a little too much Clueless…

A suit should not reveal your stomach…unless you’re Elle Woods.

Number 4:

hooker need more skin - ng

I think I’d want my hooker to show more skin.

Catastrophe Number 5:

wth ng

I think I’m speechless…

Oh wait, no…the words are formulating… yup, here they come… Target market: San Francisco.  I hear that tip-dyed blue hair is quite the classy crowd pleaser…amongst the stripper community.

Whoops Number 6:

cannot look good - ng

The website didn’t feature these on a model.  I’m guessing it’s because they couldn’t find anyone who looked good in them.

Number 7:

barcode - forever 21 - sale

Who’s the genius who thought of putting a barcode on a sweatshirt?

The moral of the story is…it could always be worse.  You’re worst outfit is probably not half as bad as these ones.  Always try to see the glass as half full.  Trust yourself.  Believe that you are capable of discriminating against the fashion disasters you encounter.

Yours Truly,

J. Molly
