Outfit of the Day: A Dash of Pink

Let me start off by saying I’m not a huge fan of maxi skirts…I prefer short skirts.  But when it’s cold out, sometimes a maxi skirt seems much more appealing!  I like this one because it’s hot pink!  If you’re wondering why the skirt looks a little weird in these pics, it’s because it was friggin cold and windy that day!  On windy days, maxi skirts sometimes end up looking like weird harem pants! The pink helps make a miserable weather day, more bright and cheery!
The sweater is one of my favorites!  I love that plunging v-necklines are still in style! Just take a look at all the red carpet looks from any of the recent award shows! It looks like plunging necklines are here to stay for at least the next little while!

When to Wear your Short-Sleeve Coat

Growing up on the East Coast, I never really understood the concept of a short-sleeve coat. If it’s cold enough to be wearing a coat, then why would you want your arms uncovered? Then I moved to the West Coast and it all made sense.  On those warm rainy days when you want a coat for protection, even though it’s not that cold out, it’s time to pull out the stylish short-sleeve jacket of questionable utility.

These puffed shoulders take me back to the 80’s ever so slightly.  I wore this coat over a maroon short-sleeve dress that I ordered from Tobi not too long ago.

So what’s the key to pulling off a short-sleeve coat?  1. Don’t wear long sleeves under it.  That trend was around ever so briefly in the early 2000’s but thankfully it’s gone.  And 2. Wear one that accentuates the short-sleeve in some way, whether it’s a puffed shoulder or a capped sleeve.  After all, you chose to buy this very ineffectual piece of outerwear, you might as well make the style count.

OOTD: Casual and Glam

While I’m not normally into graphic tees, this one was too true to ignore.  Wearing high heel pumps with a pair of light-wash skinny jeans will make your look glamorous and chic, while still comfortable.  If you’re a true girly-girl you know that sparkling, bedazzled jewelry can be hard to ignore.  Wearing a pair of crystal studded earrings and a crystal arm cuff is the perfect way to make a grungy tee more feminine and chic.

Outfit of the Day

Today’s blog outfit is inspired by the brown and white polka dot dress that Julia Roberts wore in the movie, Pretty Woman. Remember that gorgeous silky dress Vivian wears as she’s stomping on divots at the horse race?  My dress is nowhere near as gorgeous as that one, but it still reminds me of it!

I completed the look with a white cardigan, navy pair of Jeffrey Campbell shoes, a touch of red lipstick, and wavy hair that I created with my triple-barrel waver iron.

To make polka dots work for you, pair them with sophisticated separates and a seemingly effortless beauty regimen.  Keep your eye makeup simple and your jewelry classic and old-fashioned.  In Pretty Woman, Vivian transformed from a hooker into an elegant lady in a brown polka-dot dress.  Just wait and see how classy and elegant you’ll feel when you try one on!

To get this look throw on your favorite pair of skinny blue jeans.  Pair it with a sleeveless black top.  Throw your oversized black and white herringbone coat overtop.  Add a pair of black booties…any heel height will work, but the higher the better! For an extra feminine touch, throw on a silver watch with a pink face.  Add some peachy color lipstick to your lips and you’ll be ready to rock the streets with your slammin’ style!
