Transition from Winter to Spring with Awesome Street Style

Street Style

Spring Street Style Secrets

With warm weather hopefully just around the corner, I keep dreaming about my favorite Spring staples to pull out from the back of my closet.  It was a long winter wearing puffy jackets.  I’m ready for windbreakers, leather jackets, short skirts, and shorts!  At this time of year when the weather is still fairly unpredictable, (especially in some regions!) I like to wear layers.  Layering smart can help create some pretty chic street style.

I wore the above look to brunch and it was perfect.  I combined plaid and leather and sparkles, creating a look that was equal parts casual, edgy, and feminine.  This is the time to slowly transition from boots to sneakers…and then finally to sandals when the temperature starts rising!

I livened up my dark fall colors (i.e. black jacket and navy plaid shirt) by wearing fun Spring-y accessories like the bold pink handbag and sparkly pink sneakers.  Recently I’ve been obsessed with my extra large silver hoop earrings because they make every look a bit more boho.  I had more than enough excitement going on in this look so I kept my other jewelry minimal.

I wore this look out to brunch on the weekend.  When I don’t want to spend an hour getting ready, I take a few shortcuts.  I cut out hair prep time by doing my hair in a ponytail.  The big silver hoop earrings help make me look stylish without any added primping time.  I can jump out of bed and into the car in ten minutes or less with this look.

In the Spring, it’s easy to keep makeup minimal.  All you need is a freshly washed face a little mascara and a pink tint on your lips.

5 Black Leather Jackets to Wear When you Ditch your Winter Coats

I know that it hasn’t stopped snowing everywhere yet, but at some point it has to right? Finally it will be time to take off the bulky layers and downsize to a light Spring jacket. This black leather jacket from Zara is one of my go-to’s. It goes with everything and makes any of my “feminine/girly” looks just a touch edgier.  Plus, black on black is always a great idea.

This Spring’s Hottest White Tops to Buy without Breaking your Budget

For strategic reasons, I don’t often buy white tops.  They stain easily, they lose their bright white color in the wash, they’re sometimes see-through, they require white bras, and they turn yellow when you sweat.  Putting those common issues aside and focusing on style, there are so many different ways to complete your look with a white top!

The guide to buying the hottest white tops starts with one of the trendiest styles this season: the off-the-shoulder top!

There are so many off-the-shoulder varieties to choose, including:

The simple classic elastic band:

Nordstrom ($35)

The half on half off:

Nordstrom ($26.98)

The subtly sexy criss cross:

Nordstrom ($49)

The more conservative long sleeve:

Forever 21 ($22.90)

Shopbop ($19.50)

And finally, when you don’t want off the shoulder, the classic white peplum top is the perfect professional and chic top for work attire.

Macy’s ($29.99)

White tops are perfect to pair with your favorite skinny or flare jeans! When you want to make them work appropriate, pair them with wide leg trousers or a pencil skirt.

Keep your Look Cute, Even in the Rain!

Screen Shot 2016-03-12 at 6.20.01 PM

Are rainy days getting you down? The thought of dressing up for a Saturday night out on the town when the rain is pouring down harder than the Niagara Falls, putting on that little black dress and high heels may seem less than appealing.  But a rainy day doesn’t have to destroy your style.  When in doubt, go with pink! A pink raincoat and a pink umbrella will keep your look fresh no matter how many puddles you have to stomp through.

If a dress isn’t in your forecast, try wearing a pair of black skinny ripped jeans.  They’ll look chic, edgy, and keep your legs warm in the cold.  Take the attention away from the rain by wearing a pair of shiny silver rain boots.

If you’re an optimist like me, dress the way you want, and then when you’re cold, think about how it could be worse.  Growing up with snow taught me to appreciate any other kind of weather that is not snow! So when it’s raining and you’re kind of cold because you wore a tank top with a light sweater instead of a coat, just think about how much colder you would be if it were snowing outside!

Just remember, your best looks will come from meshing style and comfort with confidence. When you’re standing outside slightly cold in the rain, just remember how hot you look.
