Cool New Ways to Wear Denim this Fall

After attending a 90’s party this weekend, the combination of listening to Ace of Base and Britney’s Baby One More Time and reflecting on the trends, gave me an even more positive look on the re-emergence of everything denim.

While limited in its versatility, wearing a colored denim jacket this fall is more than A-okay! In fact, my pink denim jacket has been my go-to outerwear piece to throw over a neutral-colored dress.

We’ve gotten a bit edgier since the 90’s.  Ripped jeans have taken on a whole new meaning this season.  Just take a look at these open thigh denim.

Whoever said denim jackets couldn’t be sexy, is clearly wrong.  They may be casual, but you can dress them up in a million different ways!

Balance the Classy with the Edgy in all your Summer Looks

Screen Shot 2016-06-16 at 9.06.28 PM

Another way I like to make my predominantly feminine wardrobe a bit edgier, is with a stack of silver rings!  Just because you’re wearing pink lipstick, pink shoes, a pink skirt, and pink shades, doesn’t mean you can’t wear it with a black chocker or a some chunky rings and black nail polish.

Have you ever had a combined party: two people celebrating their birthdays for example? I love to do the same thing with my outfits: wrap two parties into one.   It might be an all classy and girly cocktail party at first glance, but then when you take a closer look you see that there’s a whole other party happening, and it usually involves an oversized watch, too many silver jewels, and dark nail polish.  So go ahead, experiment; find the perfect match between your sexy and sweet, and your edgy daredevil.

How to Stop yourself from Buying Something you’ll Never Wear

IMG_01993334

Ever regret a clothing purchase?  Sometimes I stare at my closet wondering how some of the items ever got in it!  Remember those partly sheer leopard print pants that you thought were so cool you just had to have them?  Now you look in your closet unable to fathom how you could have ever liked them?

Start by asking yourself a series of questions.

  1. Out of everything currently in my closet, what would I wear with it?
  2. So you think you’ll be courageous enough to sport a hot pink, open back dress to the party? Put yourself at the party.  What are others wearing? Put yourself in your closet just hours before the event, what are your options?  Does that dress still seem viable?
  3. Not sure about the item in question? Walk away.  Don’t worry you can always go back.  Hours later ask yourself, do I still want the item?  Wait til the next day, then ask yourself again, do I still want that item? Like with men, the one you can’t stop thinking about, is probably the one you should be pursuing.  If you can’t stop thinking about the clothing item, go back and get it!
  4. How long will the item last?  Is it cheap? Will it ball up or tear? Is the item seasonal or can it be worn all year around?
  5. Do I already own something that’s very similar to the item?
  6. Is there something I want more?  In the moment, a piece of clothing or a pair of shoes may sweep us off our feet, but we’re suddenly brought back to earth when we find something we love even more.  Explore your options, look around and see if you can find anything that tops that item.

IMG_019511At some point, you have to make the final decision.  Do I want this {insert wild and crazy wardrobe piece here}? Hopefully these questions will help you avoid those moments of regret after buying something that you now can’t stand.

A Dress for the Classic Chic Woman

Screen Shot 2015-10-24 at 6.19.09 PM Screen Shot 2015-10-24 at 6.19.19 PM

I came across this dress in my daily excursions through my favorite online sites.  It struck me as sophisticated, bold, sexy, and professional…everything a young woman could want! Despite the open-back making it impractical to wear a bra, this dress would be perfect for a work event or function.  Wear it with a pair of black stiletto pumps and a black clutch. While this dress is perfect on its own, it would also look great with a thick black belt around the waist.

New Season, New Look

Hello fellow fashion lovers,

We all know that the Fall season is like New Years for fashionistas.  All the best fashion pieces are on display in stores, the hottest shoes, the best leather bags, and last but not least, the warmest fall beauty tones make their comeback.

Summers for me are all about wearing little to no makeup.  Oh natural…as you saw in one of my previous posts.  But fall also brings about the desire to experiment with your look.  To try that new bold lipstick, or that grey-ish black eye liner, or those sparkly earrings, whatever you may choose.

I’ve recently realized that without makeup I look like I’m 14 years old.  To be taken seriously, as a woman in their mid-twenties sometimes makeup is necessary.

In today’s look I experimented with my new Clinique eye-liner called Intense Clove.  It’s a grey-ish brown color that I carefully picked out with my mom a few weeks ago.  For lipstick, I went with my trusted pink Clinique chubby stick.

For jewelry I chose a pair of gold and crystal square hanging earrings.  After all, every look needs a touch of sparkle!

Cheetah Print: Yay or Nay?

Last Fall we saw animal prints make a huge splash across the runways.  The question is, will cheetah prints make a comeback this Fall as well?

DSC_6065So what do you pair with a vibrant cheetah print jacket?  Try some chunky jewelry and a bold pair of high heels.  This shot features purple suede high heels, a statement necklace and bracelet, and a pair of oversized vintage (my grandmother’s sunglasses from 40 years ago!) round sunglasses.

For look number two I paired the cheetah jacket with a pair of ripped jeans, Chanel sunglasses, Miss Sixty sandals, and a brown watch.

Fifty Shades of Pink

This summer it’s time to add a little pink to your look.  From handbags to shoes to coats to skirts to tops to lipstick to nail polish and much much more, take your pick of pink.  In handbags we’re seeing anything from a small clutch to a full-sized satchel in pink.  If you can’t afford the pink Chanel bag featured above, try the light pink knockoff from Aldo (also featured above).

Bring out the Elle Woods in you with pink lipstick, pink nail polish, and pretty pink pumps.

Want just a subtle touch of pink?  Keep your outfit neutral and add a touch of pink with a chunky necklace or a statement ring.

Pink shoes can go a long way in adding some flavor to a basic skinny jeans and t-shirt look.

NYFW 2015: Nudity Trend

Every time there’s a fashion week, I’m eager to see the new trends.  I’m used to being amazed or shocked by the incredible and original designs that grace the runways.  But I was a little bit more surprised than usual today when I researched some new trends from the runway shows.

Nudity.  No, I’m not referring to scandalous cleavage, or extra short dresses.  In fact, it’s not the woman being exposed on the New York runways; it’s the man.

A model’s hand took the place of pants in MT Costello’s runway show.  If this trend is suggesting that full nudity is on the rise, then what will stores sell?  Will pants one day be obsolete?  Realistically no, but nonetheless this nudity trend must mean something.

Not only did we see a full frontal in the MT Costello runway show, we also got a generous backside view.  See exhibit B below.

An article in Cosmopolitan suggests that the future may hold “peekaboo pants.”  Isn’t that an oxymoron?  Aren’t pants meant to cover not reveal? I guess guys wearing pants that fall below their butt and reveal their boxers, was just not enough.  I love that we live in a time when everyone is trying to come up with the next best thing, but who knew that perhaps less is more…

I’d love to hear what you think about this runway trend.  Share in the comments below!

J. Molly
